This was a beautiful hike. Still a fair amount of snow on the ground in late May.

Was able to hike most of the trail but unfortunately the snow was still too deep to make it to the lower lake without snowshoes or past to the upper lake

As of 05/02, snowshoes needed to make it to either one of the lakes. We tried hiking it in micro spikes and got into chest deep snow shortly after the 2.5 mile mark.

Any hikes a good hike. This time round we only made it to Mayflower due to heavily postholing and the snow rolling in, so definitely prepare for that! Lots of snow on the trail and not really packed.

did this trail last Saturday. beautiful trail. awesome views. not hard at all. steady incline. wore thick snow boots, did okay. except for when trying to cross over into the valley - snow became chest deep. stay on trails and you'll be fine. ski and snowboarders come down, so keep an ear and eye out. definitely will come back after this snow storm happening at the moment. great place for back country snowboard-skiing.

Beautiful trail! We hiked with thick hiking boots, but snow shoeing or cross country skiing would have been fun too. Very steady incline in most parts. Beautiful view. 10/10 would hike again

Great trail! Lovely hike up with snow shoes!

Had a wonderful snowshoe hike yesterday. Weather was perfect. Snow was perfect. We were the first to cut trail right at the end, but otherwise followed a loosely packed trail. Can’t wait to come back in the Spring and see what the valley has to offer!

Great hike! We were the first ones since the snow and postholed a lot of the way. Ran into some people going up as we came down. Almost made it to the lakes but lost all hope of finding a trail so turned back. Beautiful and peaceful though!

LOVE THIS HIKE! If you’re coming from Denver, remember there’s an elevation gain of about 5,000 feet before you even start hiking. It’ll feel a little longer than the distance listed. In advance, 1) drinks lots of water 2) take breaks and 3) book an Airbnb with a hot tub in Breck! A great one to do with friends because there’s lots of fun and weird spots for pictures and exploring (old cabins, a waterfall and a random metal box car at the first lake). Also it’s hard to find the second lake (we gave up) so props on you for reading reviews and good luck!

We got to see all the 7 lakes of the Mohawk lakes trail today. It was very intense. We got to the trailhead early so it was only the two of us out there, and the temperature was below 0° C. We spent 6:27 hours hiking, 10.3 miles with an elevation gain of 2,198 feet above the town we are at, which is already 9,600 feet above sea level. The feeling of accomplishment is so good. #hikingadventures

Nice trail. Great view of quandary! It was a bit of a scramble at the last stretch before reaching the lower lake. Didn’t make it to the upper lake. Getting pretty chilly and windy this late into the season. The lower lake is gorgeous and it’s worth a shot on a blue sky day. Enjoy!

Trail is hard to follow at many parts. Good idea to download map before starting. Gorgeous views. More scrambling needed than I was anticipating.

Awesome hike. 9/29. Definitely moderate above Spruce but si worth the effort. Lots of wind high. Go early. More like +1600’ from the trailhead. Stay on the Spruce trail. Avoid the gravel. Lower Mohawk- mountain goats on the rock hillside across the lake. Bring binoculars

This was a really pretty hike. We made it all the way to mayflower lake. It was getting too dark to keep going up to lower Mohawk lake but still had amazing views at mayflower. I did the hike with my almost two yr old on my back, it was a great workout! Lol there were some steep rocky sections but nothing we couldn’t handle. Can’t wait to go back and go all the way up to upper Mohawk.

The trail was well-marked through the woods but became very confusing once the ascent became steeper and rockier. There were frequent spots where I got off trail, which was a real issue coming down at dusk. Don’t do this without downloading the trail map and making sure you’re still on trail. There were occasional cairns that helped locate the trail. If you hike the extra distance to Upper Mohawk, your round trip will be about 7 miles, maybe a little over. While I liked the extra exercise, I didn’t think the upper lake was anything spectacular. Be extra careful near Lower Mohawk on some of the large rocks - I sprained my ankle coming down and had a rough 3.5-mile descent.

We made a loop out of the 4WD road and Spruce Trail to Mayflower Lake and the falls about 6 mi. It was a pleasant hike!

Great trail, well worth going to the upper lakes. Has a little bit of everything! Very crowded from the falls down on a Friday.
