Note: Matthews/Winters Park is currently closed due to muddy trail conditions. For more information, please see https://www.jeffco.us/1292/Matthews-Winter-Park Start from the parking lot and walk about 100 yards, cross a stream, and continue straight on the Village Walk Trail. After 0.4 miles, take the Red Rocks Trail to the south. You will see the Morrison Slide rising in the distance. As you get closer, you can see the trail switchbacking up the side of Morrison Slide. After another 0.6 miles, you cross a stream. Just after the stream crossing, you come to the junction with the Morrison Slide Trail. Go up the Morrison Slide Trail and you will be rewarded with a pleasant walk along the edge of a 20 foot cliff. A nice resting spot is found just before you start descending the other side of the slide. This descent is a challenging mountain bike trail, so watch out for the bike riders struggling up the fairly rough trail. When you reach the Red Rocks trail, go north to return to your starting point. Warning: Other than the two stream crossings, there is little shade on this trail. It is best in the morning or evening.

Came out here to run and the trail was closed, unfortunately saw several people going on and coming off the trail despite signage. Will re-rate once run. [EDIT] - Got out here this weekend after getting over to Apex only for it to still be closed, so didn't do a great job planning the run. Enjoyed the run although for some reason I thought the trail was going to ultimately ascend Mount Morrison. Trail was well managed and slightly technical. Nice views but could see 93 the whole time. Ended up taking Almeda road down and 93 back to P-lot and do not recommend : /

We did this hike a little different. Instead of coming back up the way we came on the way back, we went the opposite way to the right at the fork around the top. This cut a little of the elevation off and made it a bit easier. A good workout, but at the half way mark, it ends at a trailhead. Not a great view

A mushy muddy run today. Heavily trafficked.

Good close hike to Denver if you are looking to get outside. I always start at Matthew winters park, take that trail and head up cherry gulch to Morrison slide. This trail overall is short and easy. Not a Teri me crowd on a Tuesday though the weekends it gets a bit insane

Hiked on 10/20/2019. Got to the TH at 9am. This is a really nice leisurely dog walk/trail run route. I would rate this as easy, not moderate. You get some good views of the red rocks a few miles in, and it connects to the amphitheater so you can explore over there too. There is very little shade/cover, so I would recommend sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. This morning was very windy and I had some issues with dust being kicked up and getting in my eyes. But otherwise a great morning walk :)

A great trail that warms you up at the beginning before the climb. If it’s a sunny and/or hot day, take sunscreen because the majority of the trail is in the sun with no cover. The view is great from the top as well.

Beautiful run on the trail this morning with my dog. Saw a rattle snake approx 1/4 mile in from the trail head!

Great hike length for a beginner hiker in CO! Minimal shade, so lots of water helped make this a very enjoyable hike. Some decent spots near the ampitheater to sit and take in the view.

Great trail. Saw a few rattle snakes. Maybe don’t go alone. But good for an hour and a half hike. Started on rocks trail from the alameda pkway parking lot. Went left onto Morrison slide then looped back on red rocks.

August beautiful hot Colorado summer day . attempted this hike in late afternoon. Found that the Rattle Snakes enjoy this trail also. decided not a good idea to go it alone. will attempt this hike again in the early morning.

Lots of pretty scenery! Not a huge fan of being so close to the road in parts, but still a nice hike. Will return to do it again!

So many stairs on this fun walk up to the Trampled By Turtles concert. Openers were The Dead South and Deer Tick.

LIARS! Who named this Red Rock Trail? There was barely any red rock at the end of the trail. More than 95% of this trail is nothing more than a hot desert or just a field with zero shade. I really regret spending time on this trail.

Amazing trail! Having just moved here from the mid west it’s the perfect trail on which to gain endurance. I’d recommend getting to the trail early as there is little shade. You will be surrounded by Lots of beautiful nature.

Well marked trail with great views. Definitely go early to avoid heat and snakes. As described this trail has moderate multi use traffic. Get out soon to enjoy wildflowers, which are still in bloom.

Would definitely recommend this trail! Amazing spots to stop and relax on the rocks with great views. Also great for mountain bikers lookig for experience with decently rocky terrain with narrow paths.
