Great trail that has a steady incline almost the entire way. Taking advantage of the fall warmth, there were plenty of people out with and a few mountain bikers. There were parts that had leftover snow and small patches of ice while other areas were muddy or completely dry. The historical ruins were super interesting and there were many beautiful scenic views. We saw a rabbit and a blue jay along the trail and on our way back, our hard work was rewarded with a family of elks including a young buck. Was beautiful! Would def rec if you want a good steady workout and rec bringing long sleeves for the sides of the mountain that are super windy.

A nice long trail to fill a morning/early afternoon (there were plenty of scenic stops). It gets warmer than you’d expect and there is minimal shade, so bring plenty of water if you’re doing the full loop.

I really enjoyed the trail. I hiked up to the summit, Mount Falcon. The trail is very rocky in some places. I saw some bike out there. I can imagine going end over end in a bike.

Reasonably easy hike. Trail is in great condition. There is some cover most of the way but there are a few exposed sections. Started at 0730 on Saturday morning. Car park was already mostly full and there were plenty of people on the trail but it wasn't crowded. A fun and fairly easy hike.

Great trail run. Clocked at 9 miles even on my GPS running app, staying on Turkey Trot both directions to avoid bikes. A bit rocky in sections but saw fewer than 20 other people in 90 minutes on a Friday evening.

Beautiful hike! I started from East Entrance around 6:30am. Lots of parking and watching sun fully rise was amazing. Good amount of shade on parts of the trail. Very well maintained trial and clear signs where they should be. Beautiful wildlife. Saw rabbits, chipmunks, birds, what looked like a family of pheasants and one rattlesnake enjoying the sun on a rock a safe distance from trail.

Great uphill start and trek around top of mountain - trail is usually dry with great views of red rocks, downtown Denver and the mountains.

it was definitely muddy heading up the trail. otherwise, the trail towards the ruins and the summer house are gorgeous. I didn't have yak trax on.

One of my top 5 front range hikes/ trail runs!!!! Amazing views the whole way up and down of the front range, Denver and red rocks. Then once you get to the top you get amazing views of the larger Rockie mts!!!! Had a blast!! A few ice patches today so yak tracks could make you feel more stable but you'll be taking them on and off the whole time. Honestly, not necessary today.

This trail is for you if you like going uphill for 3+ miles in the sun without the sweet relief of shade or level ground between unecessarily long winding switchbacks with nothing more interesting to look at than thistle. once you manage to escape the traffic noise, you are treated with the sounds of the nearby gravel plant. All this while avoiding cyclists going downhill at 37 miles an hour around blind curves. You do get one nice view of red rocks and views of the city which make it look very tiny. I did see a deer from very far away. In summation, I was not a fan. Also it was very crowded for a weekday before 230pm.

Hiked 3/5/17 would have rated this 2.5 (average) Conditions:::: - only about 300 yards of trail with snow - sunny and slightly breezy up at the top. - highly trafficked including fair amount of cyclists - had to park 1/4 mile away from actual lot What to expect:::: - trail is very rocky and in parts very worn out by tire tracks - 3 miles of good incline until it flattens out near the castle ruins - okay views of the Rockies, it was mostly views of the eastern plans and small foothills - trail is pretty sparse of vegetation - not a secluded hike, a lot of people especially on weekends This trail was a good hike but definitely if you can't resort to driving farther to other hiking spots this was just average. Seems like a better spot for mt biking or trail running. This hike is not worth the proximity to Denver if you are looking for great views of the Rockies, forested trails, or being secluded. P.S - If you just want to see the castle just park in the upper lot
