Nov 10 —just did the trail on snow shoes. It was awesome. Nobody else around and beautiful snow covered pines and aspens. Downed trees were well cleared from the trail. The lake was gorgeous with a dramatic winter sky.

Perfect hike if you are looking for an easy trail with short incline/declines. Beautiful views! The trail was completely clear of any fallen or dead trees. You could see there were several down that had crossed the path at some point but all are cut and cleared out of the way.

We did the trail in early October and it was pretty blah. Most of the leaves are down and there are just a ton of dead trees lying on the ground in many places. Not much shade and not much interesting on the hiking side.

Nice overall smooth trail. There is some elevation that some may not consider easy. Beautiful views. Can see the cross on mountain of the holy cross.

Great hike, trail was very gradual except for one small section on the way out. Continue on the trail around the lake to the left until you get to the log dock for the best views. 7.9 miles . All the down trees have been removed.

Dirt road getting in had some dicey spots if you weren’t in SUV. Trail itself was nice, some nice inclines and flat spots. Not too much to look at on way to lake, lots of down trees because of beetles. Lake was beautiful and we hung out there while the dog and our daughter played in the water. Didn’t see anyone on our way in, hiking out around noon there were quite a few people on the trail.

Nice trail, would rate it as easy. Not a good Aspen peeping trail for sure. Lots of downed trees across the trail, but easy to get around. Very few people, so that was a major bonus!

Great hike, beautiful views and the dogs loved the lake! Rocky road to the trailhead but totally worth it.

Great hike with awesome views. This was closer to moderate than easy. Couple steep parts on way back. You can walk around the entire lake

Very scenic trail. Elevation change is gentle. The Lost Lake is beautiful. Continue around with lake on your right to about halfway around for nice view of peaks across the lake. Beyond this point the path is not particularly scenic and is not a maintained trail

HikingBlowdownGreat!

Spectacular hike!! Took the pups I am dog sitting & LOVED it!!! They jumped in the lake right away! A handful of down trees along the path from the recent snow storm. Wonderful views about an hour or so in! 100% make sure you walk around to the opposite side of the lake, there is a little dock with stunning views of the mountain range behind the lake! Didn't see many people in the morning, LOTS in the afternoon :)

Wonderful trail and well marked. The views are incredible after about an hour or so of hiking. We made it up the road in a Prius with some strategic driving...so if you have a low clearance vehicle you can make it with some effort.

We loved this hike! Gradual inclines and the views were breathtaking with the fresh snow from yesterday. The road to the trailhead is about 35 minutes on gravel but worth it. When your hiking, make sure you don't stop when you get to the lake. Keep walking around and you'll be rewarded with lake AND mountain views. Spectacular!

HikingGreat!

Great and easy hike. Started around 2:30pm and with a break at the lake was back at 5:45pm. Mostly gentle elevation gains with a couple short moderate stretches. Quite a few new trees down after the strong winds and snow yesterday.

Loved this trail! The first bit was not shaded as other reviews stated so it was a bit hot for sure. Other than that it was great. The lake was gorgeous! Will definitely be back for this one!

Mountain bikingGreat!

I took my boys, 10 and 12, mountain biking on this trail. The bike up the ridge was a challenge for them and it took us a little while. They were done halfway to the lake so we turned around. Loved the ride back down. This trail is appropriately rated for older kids/adults. I really liked it and will return myself to ride all the way to the lake.

It could’ve been a little shorter in my husbands eyes, but the lake was as serene and peaceful as it could’ve been ~ truly beautiful!! Go in the morning as it gets hot and crowded by noonish.

RunningGreat!

Good for trail running or an easy hike. Walk around to the other side of the lake for beautiful views of the Gore Range. The trail is easy to follow and was not busy (on a Thurs). There are a lot of downed trees and not many wildflowers.

The lake is really beautiful and fun to explore around. The hike has its pretty features ana has its “lets just get through this part” aspect. You’ll know when your walking through that area. Beatle kill I think, so better to start off in the morning and be through the shadeless party before the hottest part of the day (11-3.. I would start no later then 9/9:30) I’m glad we did this and will likely mountain bike it next but for hiking I suggest heading to piney lake, exploring around there and checking out the Piney Falls Trail just over the ridge
