Cottonwood Pass road is closed until Memorial Day, 2019. A short, easy hike below the summit of Cottonwood Pass good warm up for other hikes in the Collegiate Mtn Range as well as excellent aspen viewing in Sept. Lost lake is below the continental divide with beautiful turquoise water & incredible 360 degree views. South of the lake is the Sanford Basin with 13ers Mt Kreutzer & Jones Mtn. Trailhead is unmarked when you see the final 2 switchbacks on Cottonwood the trail is on the left with asphalt pullout / parking on the right

This was a beautiful hike. Nice steady incline few up and downs. The climb to the lake was a little steeper than expected for an easy trail. Make sure you have waterproof hikers on as you have to get through a muddy boggy area. The lake made it worth it.

Great easy trail. There is a stretch that's pretty marshy and muddy. Hiking boots recommended.

Nice hike. Still some muddy crossings. Tried fishing for a bit but very windy and no signs of fish. On the more moderate side of easy, FYI. Cottonwood Pass was open with about 30 minutes of delay coming from Gunnison.

Fantastic hike up to Lost Lake. Amazing wild flowers, in and out of the woods, through several meadows. Beware that there is currently a large muddy marsh from runoff. Made it across, but would recommend hiking boots for sure. Well worth it though. The lake is absolutely beautiful!

Great hike for people who are from out of town or who aren't quite used to the elevation and don't want to do a long hike. You start quite high already so of course the views are beautiful. Pretty mellow trail. Gets very crowded on weekends. Still has a large muddy section. You're feet are going to get muddy/possibly wet, just accept it. A bunch of routes around the mud have been created but please just walk through the mud/go the main route to prevent trampling down and killing too many willows. Lake is beautiful. Fun for doggos.

The hills are alive...with the sound of all the streams running down the mountain! It was a beautiful hike all the way to the lake. One section was very muddy, but you can get around the worst parts of it with some strategic footing. I would wear shoes similar to Chacos or hiking boots. Saw people and dogs swimming in the lake up top. Great hike!

Great short hike off Cottonwood pass. minimal climbs. Still muddy with a few stream crossings. Well worth the views. Bugs at the Lake were bad so bring the bug spray.

We had a hard time following the trail but enjoyed the views along the way. Make sure you are prepared for water and mud!

Beautiful views! Trail still covered by snow much of the way and the water level is high in the creeks and runoff so be prepared to get wet but our five year old hiked the trail no problem and loved finding ways around the snow drifts!

July 6, 2019. Still a wet and snowy slog for the final third, requiring alternate paths (normal easy, but currently moderate until it dries out). I’ll be back in August. Beautiful payoff when you get to Lost Lake. It was about half frozen, but could still see trout swimming around.

6/15/19 - Couldn't find the trailhead. Too much snow. Cottonwood Pass is closed up ahead. (Don't know how many stars to rate...)

Cottonwood Pass road is closed all year until Memorial Day , 2019. It’s closed at the Avalanche trailhead. The Forest Service is so underfunded that they have to rely on volunteers, no doubt that’s where the misinformation in the previous review came from.

Because of the previous review saying that the road was closed, I called the ranger district and a young lady told me the private road was closed but the public road was open. The public road was Cottonwood Pass, which is closed. We talked to many local people and they said there’s no way to get to Lost Lake Trail this summer until Cottonwood Pass opens back up.

Completed this hike on 6/14/18. This is an easy hike but has a lot of mud to navigate through. The payoff in the end is well worth it and it does not take a very long time to get to the lake. Once we got to the lake we saw a herd of elk to the south a little ways. Great Hike!

It's June 10. It was a great hike with ups and downs. Mud patches here and there but ways around and through it. Beautiful lake!

Nice hike exactly 18.1 miles outside of town. TH isn't marked and there is a paved pullout on the opposite side of the street with enough space for two cars. Early spring conditions included mud (that required wading throug) and some snow patches that you could go around. Lake is beautiful. Nice hike and good one for flatland ders still adjusting to altitude. early spring requires you to trudge through a pretty swampy and muddy section, but it is short...maybe 30 feet or so.

June 1, 2018 - nice hike, lot of patches of snow 1-2+ feet deep to slow us down, That added more work to what should have been an easy hike. All in all it was worth the scenery.
