Hardcore when running down hill Sacred pines whistle as the wind blows through the valleu at the top
Arrived at trailhead at 7:45 and lot was completely empty. One way on the trail was nice and quiet and didn’t see anyone until we began the Rocky climb on Little Thompson River Trail. Gusts started once we created above the valley and sustained most of the trail. No need for traction as trails were nice and dry.
Went for a nice little hike on 1/2/21. Got there around 12 and it was pretty crowded on all trails. For the first part of the hike the trail was fine, mostly dry. Once we made it past the rocky part of the trail and headed towards the trail end it got pretty muddy. We stepped on mainly rocks to try and not leaving deep imprints, but the trail is so heavily populated. Overall though, it was a beautiful day. Clouds rolled in around 2 and that’s when the temperature really started to drop. Our dog Paco enjoyed stretching his little legs too!
Certain sections stopped recording, very busy (New Years day) a little amount of mud and snow. Gorgeous day!
Hiked this one again due to closure of Picture Rock Trail. Went on both the Eagle Wind and Little Thompson Overlook. Day started out pleasant but became quite windy by 11 am. Left TH at 9:10 am, not many people then but picked up during the morning. Saw a herd of deer on Eagle Wind. Nice views of the area and a relatively easy hike although rocky at times. Good winter outing. Took us 3.5 hours over the 6 miles including several stops for photos and lunch.
Nice trail. Although I thought it was off leash area but was not. Still enjoyed the hike.
Relatively easy trail that was great for a late November hike. There was no snow, mud or ice! Trail was rocky- especially on the Little Thompson overlook portion. I preferred the Eagle Wind part of the trail because of the trees and the frequent deer sitings. It took us just over 2 hours round-trip from our parking spot on 53rd street.
Hiked on 11/12/20. Left TH about 8:10 am with plenty of parking available. Trail from TH goes up and eventually crosses over Indian Mesa to start the Eagle Wind loop. It is scenic with great views of the valley below and intermittent pine trees. Saw several deer off of the trail. After completing, missed the trail back and walked for a ways on Indian Mesa before catching the trail again and going up the Little Thompson trail. This is uphill on a gradual incline and goes to an end point with a nice overlook of the surrounding area. In addition to deer saw an eagle and of course prairie dogs. A lot of good interpretive signs on the trails. Little Thompson is rocky all the way up. Weather was sunny, cool and windy at times. Generally an open area with long range views. Overall an enjoyable fall hike. We logged 6.2 miles in about 4.5 hours.
