Pretty, relatively flat. Some areas rockier than others. Hot and dry, some bikers. Two kids did fine. Well maintained trail.

We love & frequent rainbow. Comfortable walk/hike for all levels & ages. Occasional, friendly & courteous bikes & dogs, fairly exposed, quiet, great views & easy to access. Lots of cactus & hot & dry come summer. Today, tons of dog poop . Appreciate those who clean up after their fury friends. No bags on site so bring your own & keep it clean for all to enjoy.

Nice easy hike. We only went out a mile and back as we weren't looking for distance. Nice views of the peaks and Salida.

Great trail that has ups and downs and you can pump a lot of it. There is some up hill but isn’t to intense. This trail leads to race track, lost, and some more that I recommend.

Great trail run spot. In summer it’s best before 10am because it is pretty exposed. Dogs loved it!

Unlike Phil’s World in Cortez, Colorado, there aren’t many direction recommendations which means extra vigilance going around corners and there are a lot of them. Not a terribly fast track and not very complex. Great views and lots of enthusiasts.

This is one of the easiest trails in the Salida area. It’s a great trail to check out when you are new to the area and still getting acclimated. The climbs are relatively easy and it is one of the least technical trails. Overall it is just kind of an easy going cross country mountain bike trail. I take my seven-year-old here to ride frequently and he love going down Racetrack.

Trail is not difficult, but it’s a bit monotonous.

Hiking

This trail is easy, but a relatively boring hike. The sandy trail passes by cacti and junipers in arid conditions. There is little shade and no water. More suited for mountain biking. Brought our little kids here to hike, but we turned around after about 10 minutes. Very arid and dry terrain with lots of fire ant hills on the trails, and even cacti directly along the trail. Would not call this trail family friendly, although it is easy and flat.

It was a little steep in some areas for snowshoes, but otherwise it was a great hike. The view is beautiful and worth the hike.

Nice trail. Approx 8600 ft altitude. Walking poles are good to have with you. Only went in about 2.5 mi due to time but recommend it. There are some great views of mountains while at same time you overlook Salida.

Mountain biking

As a beginner-level mountain biker, this trail was perfect. All the elevation changes and turns are mild and the track is wide. This is perfect for anybody honing their mountain biking skills. The views of the surrounding mountains and town below are good. I would recommend this trail for any hiker/biker of any skill level. This trail also connects with a couple of other trails on the east end of the Methodist Mountain Trail System. These trails are definitely not as easy. Dead Bird Trail is a much more difficult trail if you're looking for a challenge after doing Little Rainbow. It has severe elevation changes and is a more narrow track. It just depends on what you are looking for.
