This trail starts in an old part of Boulder with a quick elevation climb to get the heart pumping. Once on the mesa, follow the trail into the trees and around to the left for a short loop. You will be on the Mesa trail for a short while. Notice what selective tree removal has done while you hike. There is a map at the trailhead.

Beautiful trail! Not quite 4 miles, but lots of different connecting trail options you can explore. Good uphill portion at the beginning, and lots of wildflowers and views the further in you go. Even saw a coyote!

Great trail - nice incline in the beginning and nice view of the mountains. Nothing spectacular but still beautiful and good workout. Went at 8am on a Sunday - the trailhead is just a street essentially at the end of neighborhood so didn’t have any issues parking. Trail wasn’t too crowded

This trail was awesome. Definitely inclined in the beginning, but nothing too strenuous. There was a decent amount of shade and even a little water for my dog to cool off in. Awesome view at the top as well. Muddy and a ton of spiders but that’s nature for ya!

This trail is decent not the best not the worst - it is super rocky and very confusing as to which trail to take super glad we downloaded the map - was very busy on 4/26 around noon which with the super narrow trail makes for some stress between the dogs, runners etc.

This was a beautiful trail with an initial steep, icy and muddy section. The ice comes and goes on the trail the entire time, although there are some nice dry spots too. Great variety of scenery and Bear Peak views. Traction is a must.

Lots of mud and ice, especially for the first half mile. Microspikes necessary.

The start of the trail was nothing but mud, snow, and mud. But after the top of that initial hill it’s pretty clear.

Winter is a lovely time to explore the trials between NCAR and Chautauqua because the volume of trails users is much more palatable than other seasons. The trail has quite a bit of ice on it, manageable without micro spikes but probably more enjoyable with them on. Beautiful outing!

Great trail! Snowshoes or skies are a good idea but a good boot will work just fine! A little weird that it didn’t have a true ending point but it had gorgeous views of Boulder and of the flatirons. I highly recommend, great for off leash if you have the Voice and Sight tags.

Great trail. The views are lovely and the grade is moderate. Again, I’m thinking this would make a great “starter trail” if I was to get into trail running. Completely dry with maybe one ice patch near the end. This trail ends at a weird spot (base of a hill vs the top) - so if looking for a view...stop before you get to the end for scenic sunrises:)
