Took my stock 02 Avalanche out on the trail, I had plenty of fun. Found what I need to do to make the landslide more off road capable. will be coming back up before it gets closed this season.

Beautiful scenic drive, very rocky, no obstacles to speak of. Pretty much any stock rig could get through here.

Take Road 353 at the first three way fork in the trail. 353 is the left most road at the fork.

Just talked to the visitor office in Idaho Springs regarding trail opening. Said they are waiting for the last big drift to melt. They are hoping for 7/21 but could be a few days after that. All depends upon the snow melting.

From town heading North; trail is open till timberline, there is a closed locked gate. Again this is right at timberline which is about a 1/4 mile from Rock House. Trail is mostly rocky, a couple moderate spots but I had no troubles getting to timberline in my 2015 GJC. Lots of beautiful views and some nice camping spots.

+beautiful trails above the treeline +more trails than what the app said +beautiful lakes -1 or 2 mildly challenging spots -nearly all very rocky, but I imagine that comes with the altitude

Went for a ride with 7 other jeeps today. Awesome trail - nice length. Took up most of the day with the occasional stop to take in the sights. Gets very narrow/steep at some points so if you’re going with a group make sure you look ahead. A few tricky spots but my stock JL made it no problem.

A great way to get to some Alpine views quickly and without incident, also great for avoiding the crowds on St. Mary's and Loch Lomond. Gate open as of July 28th 2018 and almost totally dry up there. Rocky and uneven, but there are bypasses at all the tricky spots and nothing too intense. - no steep drop-offs, etc.

Just came back from a road trip. I drove from south to north , 3 hours with few stops for breaks and photos. Amazing view! Pretty sure that driving from north to south could be more difficult, you will have two very steep hills. Didn't have any problems with my Bubba (Wrangler Sport, 2 doors, 35 tires, 2.5" lifted).

We came in from Mammoth gulch around 8 pm and came out at Hill top rd around 1am. Xj with 33’s and 4.5 inch long arm lift. 7/7/18

They aren't opening this up to vehicles until July 15th according to a little birdie. I hiked up it a couple weeks ago and still saw a few vehicles and a couple drifts. How did they get up there? Two weeks ago I went again on foot and most of the snow drifts are gone but it's been getting hit with rain.

Pretty rocky. Only made it to the gate about 1.5 miles up from the neighborhood. Super easy up to that point. 3rd gen 4Runner 3inch lift.

Road blocked off by snow drifts that are impassable as of May, 19 2018. In a 4 inch lifted jeep it was not possible for us. Come back when its warmer.

This is a fairly easy trail with an 4 wheel drive. I have a Silverado with 6" lift on 35" and had no issues at all. I will need to try again earlier in the summer. Was socked in with heavy fog and sleet/snow. Make sure you leave you rock at the mailbox. Everyone does.

Great trail to follow with so much to see. Take the full day and go all the way up and around down to Black hawk. Great way to spend a whole day in the mountains.

This is a great trail, especially if you have a full day to take your time. Can be completed with 4x4s with a little higher ground clearance. I did this with a nearly stock '01 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, no sweat. We had a large moose walk over the trail about 200 ft in front of us, what a treat.

Need a mid clearance car or you will bottom out and get stuck. Very good trail for beginners looking for off road experience Also, can't drive all the way up. Vehicles are prohibited past the seasonal gate the other guy was talking about I believe..... it was open when I went

it looks really cool but the seasonal gate that was supposed to open on July 15th was still closed.

Great views! Some tricky switchbacks.

Hiked up with the pup. Had to park down the road about a mile from the gate, lots of snow on the road. Great hike for a sunny day. Might be tough if there were ATVs, but this late in the season made it very quiet. We eventually turned toward James Peak instead of Kingston once we got to the saddle, but the trail to Kingston looked completely dry. Found some thick patches of snow along the way to James. Absolutely beautiful and can't wait to go back!

We went the other direction from the Moffat tunnel. Awesome trail. The trail starts out easy, but starts getting more challenging if you don't have the ground clearance. I will definitely go back.

Great family adventure. High clearance definately recommended in a few spots. Make it a loop and come out north of Central City and Black Hawk.

Great Trail w/ great views!! 4x4 is a must!

Great moderate trail. I recommend 4 wheel drive and high clearance on stock or lifted vehicle. 2 tough sections. Small lake/ponds to hike if you need a break. Incredible views! 1 1/2-2 hrs to complete from trail head. Easier if you start on the St Mary's/Chinn's Lake side of the trail.
