Hiked the continental divide trail from Independence Pass TH on 6/25/20. The trail is almost completely clear of snow and absolutely beautiful views! We did about 2.5 miles out (about 5 miles round trip). Once you get over the first knoll, you get amazing views of maroon bells and other peaks to the west. And an impressive view of grizzly peak as you climb. Absolutely amazing views for minimal effort!

Up a short steep hill (and yes after driving up thousands of feet, more hills) you will find the most gorgeous view of the continental divide! Dress for the weather, it was incredibly windy up there when we went. My husband refused to pack anything warmer then a hoodie and light jacket and deeply regretted it. Although you are not far from your car it is challenging being that cold, you won’t get to enjoy the views as much!

not much of a hike, but scenery is still amazing. Get there early or late as it gets crowded pretty quickly.

Easy walk to a couple of lookout points. On June 30 it was still very snow covered in places. Amazing views and location overall.

I would highly recommend taking the spur hike off the paved path. It can get a bit steep, but the views are astounding. I think we only did ~3.6 miles roundtrip since we deemed it unsafe to continue with the baby on my back. However, without the baby I would have continued to the top - it is a bit steep.

Half way between Aspen and Twin Lakes, Independence Pass is the highest paved crossing of the Continental Divide in the United States. There is a short paved walkway to two overlooks that provide great views of the alpine tundra. It also offers excellent views to the east of Mount Elbert, (at 14,440 feet...the highest peak in both Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, and the second-highest mountain in the continental U.S.), as well as La Plata Peak (another fourteener and the state's fifth-highest peak). This is an easy stop with unforgettable views, and should not be missed if you are in the area.

Cool, easy, windy, right off the road. A lot of people but what do you expect with it being right off the road. Overall fun short little stop, driving on the windy roads through the pass is a ton of fun too (if you like to drive).

Driving up, we passed through stands of aspens on Hwy 82 between Aspen and Twin Lakes in the Sawatch Range. We arrived at Independence Pass the day before Independence Day. Sunny and beautiful above the tree line, we strolled out to the overlook and the tundra was just starting to bloom with wildflowers and several of the peaks still had slivers of snow on them. Great view of Mt. Ebert. It was a bit windy through the pass but a great stop at the highest paved pass across the Continental Divide.

Great place to see the awesome road you just drove up! Usually a few cars parked up here, can get crowded, But the views are worth it, many 14'ers in the neighborhood!
