This trail is not on the Pence Park map but is easily found behind the trailhead information board. It is a short but steep hike with views of Evergreen to the east and Bear Mountain to the south. From the parking lot pass the information sign and the trail sign for Bear Creek Trail leading across the road. Go up the unmarked trail towards until reaching a small wooden stairway. This is a balloon shaped trail so either taking or passing the stairway will lead you to the same place where the trail continues on up the hill. Thick ever green forests will break occasionally for small grassy areas. Flowers of all shapes and colors bloom along the trail. You will also pass a small spring where wild roses grow and an aspen grove lit up like candles when hit by the early morning sun. The summit will provide panoramic views of Bear Mountain on the left, the City of Evergreen and of course the Rocky Mountains.

Nice trail and not busy at all this time of year. Completed yesterday and the views at the top are well worth the short hike up. Icy in some areas but you don't really need spikes if you just tread carefully around the icy areas. I took them just in case but never used them.

Icy in spots but clear path overall; wore traction going down. Beautiful trail

Great moderate hike. Not much snow today. took about 2 hours including a break at the top and I had a baby on my back. A great view once you get to the top and some nice aspens along the way....somebody even left a pre-rolled out there.

Only saw a few people in the distance on this one. not much traffic on Friday at 1pm.

*bonus*

Short and steep, but great views at the top! Winds were a little crazy today, so didn’t spend too much time up top. Some icy spots on the trail that spikes may have been useful for, but managed just fine.

Beautiful short hike close to Denver! It’s steady incline to the top, completely worth the short work out for the views! Lovely panoramic views. Great go-to hike.

A fun hike with Kalina Miller today on this easy to find trail with some excellent views. The inclines are not so steep really and there are some nice level sections and a few short downhills. Enjoy the scenery and take lots of pics.

Such a fun little trail! Small bit of scrambling to the rocks at the top. Spikes were useful but probably not required today. Lovely views. Port-o-let at the trailhead. (I always find it useful know!)

It's a short one, but great for a morning away. Had the trail to myself and didn't see anyone til I got back to the parking lot. No snow yet, but the incline is real! Views are amazing at the top (minus the mansions built into the mountainsides).

A new favorite. Short but a great workout with how steep it gets in spots. Nice at the top to sit and hang out, will definitely be back!

A great short hike. The steep incline provides just enough of a challenge. Great views at the top. Ideal for bringing a dog.

Nice short hike that gets a work out in with the elevation gain. Would be good for someone acclimating before tackling a 14er.

Did the north and south loop today and it was very pretty. Snowed the whole time making it even better. I’d say it’s a fairly easy hike, took me maybe 30-40 minutes and I was stopping and taking pics. I’m new to Colorado so my lungs ain’t good either, def recommend to anyone looking for a close hike from the city.

Fun day hike. Didn't take too long but it's a burner!

Definitely not an easy hike especially for midwest people not use to elevation. Worth the effort to get to the top views are outstanding.

Good hike. We had a 4 and 3 year old on foot so only did the loop, which was around 1 mike distance and 300ft elevation gain. Overall it was pretty and good start for the kids to tackle.

Nice view west from the top. About 25 minutes up and 15 down. Difficult enough if you are coming from somewhere at sea level the day prior.

Great lower body workout, but nothing too crazy, my Frenchie came with. The view from the top is a little hazy from all the smoke but still beautiful!

This hike is a perfect one for a quick day hike. It’s close enough to the city that you aren’t driving hours to get there, it’s low/moderately trafficked, and quick. It’s tough, but the views at the top are well worth it. I do this hike about once a month and still love it!

Great hike with some difficult parts. Great views at the top. Highly recommend good hiking shoes....not tennis shoes, chacos, or sandals.

Wonderful views at the top and several different paths to get there. Right in the middle of a cute little town, too.

My sister-in-law and I hiked this trail late afternoon and it was great! I’m not in great shape, so it was challenging, but the view was well worth it. If you’re wearing “open” hiking shoes, like Keens or Chacos, be prepared to get some sand and dirt in your kicks. Also, since the trail is sandy, be ready for extra umph to get you up, and extra grip to get you down. I would 100% recommend hiking poles if you’re not fit or only slightly fit. Bring lots of water on a hot day!
We took the north loop up and south loop back.
Even in late August the wildflower foliage was very pretty. Not a boat load of blooms, but still good. In the end, the view from the top is gorgeous.
The hike down was super easy, but because of that rocks/sand don’t forget those good grip shoes.
Again, great hike!

Definitely not an easy hike but we did pretty well. The views are incredible and we went right as it was about to rain so at the peak of the trail we were surrounded by clouds and fogs rolling in over the mountains. According to our fitness tracker it was about 3.2 miles up one side of the loop, up the full north path, back out and down the other side of the loop.

A challenge going up, but worth the view at the top.

Nice little workout in a pretty setting without a ton of traffic. Great little saloon on the way back to Denver, too.

Great quick workout ! Views at the top are superb. Great for out of towners that aren’t used to hiking regularly or at higher elevations.
