Imogene Pass is the second highest drivable pass in Colorado. The drive is one of the most thrilling in the state. At Savage Basin, you'll pass through Tomboy Townsite, once one of most active mining towns in Colorado. A great deal of mining debris is still scattered about. Most is on private property and is dangerous to explore. The pass is blocked by snow until it is plowed, usually in early July. Unlicensed vehicles are not permitted on lower half of south side and must start trail from Camp Bird Road, where plenty of parking is available. High Point 13,114 ft., Best time to go: Mid July-Sept. Located in Uncompahgre National Forest. For current conditions call Norwood or Ouray Ranger District (970) 327-4261. Do not take this trip lightly. The road is rocky, steep and narrow in places and passing can be dangerous. Stock SUVs should have low-range gearing, 4-wheel drive, high clearance and skid plates. Experienced drivers only.

A great ride. Took stock Jeep Grand Cherokee trail hawk. Combined this with Ophir pass. Some real technical parts from Imogene pass back into Ouray. Wore me out mentally but would recommend it to anyone with good high clearance vehicle. Used 4 wheel drive low in many places. Color was changing and was absolutely amazing.

Great drive. We were in a Lexus GX with a 2.5” lift and 33’s. Handled it perfect. Slow in some spots, more technical on the Ouray side after the summit. The Telluride side has some nail biting moments. Overall so fun. The colors, flowers and scenery were unbelievable.

Solid off-road trail. Started in Telluride, made it up to the peak of Imogene Pass. Then continued down where you get dropped off at Ouray. Stock 4x4 2015 Chevy Colorado. Took some areas nice and slow and didn’t have any issues. Highly recommend, cool mining town and gorgeous views! Accidentally closed the app when recording, then forgot to end recording

Beautiful pass. Started in Telluride. Jeep recommended. We have 35” tires with a 2.5 lift and made this trail just fine. Choose your lines carefully. Our dog threw up 3 times, but he gets motion sickness every now and again. It took about 3.5 hours to complete for us.

Nice place to drive, high above sea level. The breeze and the smell of the trees omg you will encounter yourself with the nicest trails. Lots of people jeep lovers most of them. Just keep both hands on the wheel and don’t try to over do it on some of the big rocks just take the easy route if you don’t know what you are doing. We drove a stock Jeep made it perfectly.

It's legendary good return trip back to Ouray from either Black Bear or Ophir. remember it is long though. Pass is easier from Telluride to Ouray. Popular trail lot of tours up it. Be mindful of turnouts on the Telluride side. Any decent stock 4x4 with reasonable ground clearance should be ok.

Excellent, back to back with Ophir. Definitely preferred this one for the views and technical challenges. Moderate, everything can be done in a stock rig with decent clearance and low range.

Beautiful drive. Helped out someone who drove off the trail. Then they rolled it off the trail. Fun day though!

Trail is in great condition, no snow on the road itself, 8/11/19 with light rain the entire time. Completed from the Yankee Boy Basin to Telluride in a '17 4Runner, leveled, with stock size Nitto Ridge Grapplers aired down to 20 and was very grateful to have had the steel skid plates underneath. Rock sliders were also a nice comfort, but not entirely necessary. Some great obstacles required a good line, but nothing was too technical. Have some 4x4 experience behind you or bring a friend. Unbelievable views, especially on the Ouray side. The whole thing was amazing. Can't wait to do it again from Telluride to Ouray some day.

Went on this drive w Telluride Outside guided tour. It was amazing! The driver was very knowledgeable and the views spectacular. We saw a lot of old mining ruins along the way. Definitely a must see. I would recommend going with someone who really knows how to operate a 4x4 vehicle. It’s a 1 way road and passing is sketchy.

Awesome trail! We did it in a stock 2019 JL. It rained most of the time but we had no issues. Highly recommend it.

Trail is in good condition until tomboy. Shortly after is a “road closed” sign and if you continue on will face muddy and slushy conditions until the final switch back. I encountered road workers trying to plow the final bit to the summit and they allowed me to pass. No clear road for the last 1/2 mile and you will need to climb the scree to the top or kick steps into the snow face where the road is buried by snow. Sketchy if you don’t have proper gear or feel confident on exposed faces. Should be cleared in a week or two.

Long and gradual climb with waterfalls along the way. We had to stop at the double falls because second one was too dangerous to cross. It was too snow covered much beyond that to continue anyway. Great views of the town and mountains.
