Great trail with a good mix of climbing and flat land trail through the trees. Great views of both lakes and the surrounding mountains. We started at the access trail in Pinion Campground Loop D that goes by the Amphitheater. We suggest hiking the loop counter clockwise as the trail signage is oriented that way. If you start the trail at the normal trail head there sis a brochure with information specific to posted signs along the trail.

I take my family w kids from 2yrs -15 regularly, we all love this hike. Breathtaking views, nice variety of terrain, easy but exciting w nice variety, excellent kodac moments, magical skies. Kids under 3 need to be carried a good part of the way.

This little gem of a trail offers 360 degree views of the mountains and plains with only a scant 177' vertical climb. It's a winner in my book.

Beautiful hike. Went out about 9 am and mosquitoes were bad at the trail head and it was already getting hot. Fairly easy trail for my 7 year olds. We somehow got off trail and had to cut down the hog back to get back on the trail. I notice a comment from another hiker had the same problem earlier. No biggie, we had a good time and enjoyed the beautiful scenery we were out there to view.

This is a great trail to hike while it’s snowing. There are large sandstone boulders that you will encounter on your trek. This area is an exquisite place for an intense game of hide and seek. We didn’t play, but I’m sure it would’ve been cool. If you’re planning on hiking with someone that you think may tackle you, be sure to watch out for all of the cholla cacti. They are plentiful along the trail and are hilarious when someone who tackles you ends up getting pricked in the butt by them. Because of this and some totally sketch rocks at the top of the ridge, this trail is rated a 6.7/10 for rough housing and horse-play.

so the views at the top get 5 stars but i just hiked it and the trail kind of disappeared after marker four. there was a ton of rocks and i basically had to rock scramble down the hogback. just be careful and if you experience the same just turn around.

We took our two young kids and it was a bit rocky at the top but a beautiful view. Nice hike on a beautiful sunny although chilly Colorado day.

Easy hike but gives great views of the Huajatollas, Greenhorn and the Sheep Mountains. Trail head marker says the loop is 2.3 miles. Great place to watch the sun rise or set.

A great, easy hike for kids. The trail is well maintained and clearly marked. Lots of varried terrain for such a short hike. The park staff at the visitor center were helpful and knowledgeable too!
