We took this trail to Lost Lake. We plan on going back to check out the other lakes and trails another day. This place is beautiful! The trail is moderate to hard in certain areas, but ultimately is kid and dog friendly as long as you take it easy. Several areas where you cross waterfalls, rivers, and muddy trail puddles. The trail is not clearly marked but there is enough traffic you can always count on finding fellow hikers to figure out where to go. There is an old truck in the woods which baffles me as to how it got there and it’s an awesome find. Lost Lake is small but beautiful, definitely worth the steep hike to reach it. My only advice would be to get there either super early OR late after 4pm to find parking. Parking is on the street on one side only, the road ends up being one lane and is extremely hard to drive on with all the traffic. There is a free shuttle that will take you from town to the trail and back so maybe consider doing that instead of trying to park. We got there at 10am and had to park over a mile away and walk to the trail because it was so busy.

Wow! Fabulous with a surprise around every corner. Challenging but still good for beginners. The waterfall in June was just dramatic and full and provided many scenic views.

Easy trail to hike but still pretty muddy in some areas as well as snow in others. We originally tried to get to one of the lakes further down the trail but had to turn around twice because the trail is not very defined. Ended up going to Lost Lake, it was gorgeous!

Easy, short hike up to lost lake. Was a little wet, but I had tennis shoes on and was able to completely avoid all the water.

Mostly in shade on the way up. Plenty of other friendly, respectful people to help guide the way, though there’s very little chance losing the trail.

Lost lake has a handful of campsites which are right on the water, so plenty of easy access views to be had.

Oh, and the Hessie Trail to Lost Lake has a couple of obvious signs which link to Woodland lake King Lake Jasper Lake and Diamond Lake/4th of July Trail.

TAKE THE FREE SHUTTLE FROM NEDERLAND TO THE TRAIL. Pick up the shuttle across from the Nederland library. Ample free parking. Nederland has a round-about (hard to miss); look for the sandwich board sign pointing you to the pickup spot. From the round-about, drive towards Estes Park and the shuttle boarding is about 1000 feet from the round-about on the left hand side. PICK UP STARTS AT 8-ISH. I was there s little before 8a and they hadn’t set out the sign yet. Meh.

Easy hike. Went today 5/13/18 and there was minimal packed snow up to the lake. We had on hiking boots and tennis shoes. There is some water to walked through, but our friends with tennis shoes manage just fine walking on logs/rock to pass by. Pretty lake up top and campsites.

Wonderful trail, went up to lost lake. It was very snowy but well packed. Had to like in a bit from the main road.

Great little winter hike. We went the extra half mile to Lost Lake. In the winter you can't park at the trailhead so that adds about a half mile as well. No snowshoes required but yaktraks are nice!

Good view, the roads closed so it’s about a 10-20 minutes walk to the trail head.
Fairly trafficked trail even in the winter so I’d leave your snow shoes at home, yaktraks with hiking boots is sufficient, some parts of the trail are icy.

Pretty falls. Long way back to the trail head and very poor signage. Would have hiked longer if we knew we were heading in the right direction.

The trail itself is nothing special until you rise above treeline and/or reach a lake. King's lake highly recommended.

I loved this easy walk marked by glorious stands of aspen, lots of rushing water, a lovely bridge, fox, and other wildlife. Easy drive, easy parking, but get there early; the trail gets crowded and you have to take a shuttle. Lovely flowers and mountain views.

this isn't a trail so much as a 4x4 road that leads to other trails. the rocks are all different sizes which means you have to look at your feet the whole time and not the scenery. the road is so wide that you aren't really in the trees and private property everywhere means you have to stick to the road only. the waterfalls are pretty though.

Great trail a steady incline all the way the only complaint is the trail is full of rocks.

love love love this trail, highly recommend taking far left trail at fork and following the small path along the river. There are rocks that you'll have to climb, but I'm not in shape at all and managed just fine. The beauty just continues and continues!!

Amazing hike with beautiful creek, waterfalls, lake and wild flowers! Be prepared to wet you sneakers, still plenty of snow on top of the trail.

Great hike but the runoff can make some people's shoes wet. so wear waterproof shoes with good traction. Great views and the waterfall is very then strong due to the runoff

The waterfall is gorgeous and totally worth the short hike!

Mid-May and there's still plenty of snow on the ground. Great trail!

Great trail for small kids. Easily hiked and as of today packed snow. No need for snowshoes as it's packed snow.

Great trail. Beautiful aspens. Awesome waterfalls. Not to steep but still a work out.

This hike is worth while but has a few draw backs. The "trail" is almost exclusively a loose rock logging road with only minimal areas of dirt trail. This trail is VERY busy. So much so that there is a shuttle bus for when parking is bad, 2 outhouses, and a friendly ranger writing parking tickets. Lost lake itself is pretty but not the most beautiful of mountain lakes. The changing of the leaves made this hike better than it would have otherwise been, but still worth while.

Nice hike up the trail. Gets busy during the days so be sure to get there early or shuttle up.

gorgeous views, nice creek with appropriately scenic waterfalls, and we went in late september as the aspens were changing color, so the surrounding forest was out of control beautiful. my only note is that the tags are a little deceptive - while it's not a difficult hike by any means, there are parts of the trail that are just loose rock at a fairly steep incline, which I wouldn't classify as kid-friendly. I also wouldn't bring anybody with knee problems for the same reason. overall, a great hike that's easily done in a morning or afternoon.

Crowded because it's pretty. Gorgeous waterfalls and creek the entire way.

Loved it! So many things to see. Beautiful overview of Boulder and the mountains, beautiful waterfall and gorgeous lake. I've done a lot of trails in CO and this is definitely my favorite!

Fun trail. Went both in summer and winter. Although the hike is more difficult in winter, it's much more beautiful in my opinion.

This was a beautiful trail! Definitely recommend it! I can't wait to see more of the wild flowers in full bloom. Get to this trail early! Parking is insane if you go in the afternoon, and you may have to take the free shuttle from Nederland.
