This trail was really fun, but a steep trek uphill. We went a little off course, turning right at the no bikes sign, and there was a really beautiful, isolated place to look at the surrounding mountains.

Watch out , misleading map here ! this trail takes you into two different trails, West Grouse Creek or Grouse lake trail. at the fork going up, TAKE RIGHT into West Grouse Creek, this is the only way to (try) to do the loop. I mistakenly took left at the fork (Grouse lake) which is an 11 miles trail with 3,000 feet of elevation gain. Also, the Map shows by error that you can still do the loop by following Grouse Lake, which is incorrect. this is a beautiful trail though if you have what it takes with the Lake at the end as the cherry on the cake !

Steady climb along the creek. Not at all crowded mid week. We tried to do the loop on the way back but there were so many downed trees on the path that we had to turn around. So stay to the right, along the creek. We heard a moose call! Great birding. Otherwise, nothing special.

Beautiful moderate trail, very well marked, lots of wildflowers, delphinium, scarlet giulia, bluebells, prairie flax, daisies, columbine, and many others. Lots of trail by streams and you cross them by walking on logs so be careful. Steep at times but mostly gradual incline. Bug alert...bring bug spray. We followed the west Grouse Creek trail. Very lush and green.

As mentioned below, mosquitos are bad on this trail! Pretty solidly had to swipe mosquitos off of me despite going as fast as I could. Do not follow the loop as displayed on this site, the trail is very overgrown with fallen trees everywhere. Follow west grouse creek all the way to the top and consider it done ;) Looks like a fun trail to bike as well

It was a great hike with gradual incline and sounds of the creek all the way up, but the bugs (mosquitoes specifically) were a lot! And that’s coming from someone who is not normally upset by bugs. Definitely a trail worth checking out, but bring spray!

Great hike, I did the loop and the mid part wasn’t very packed down, I ended up Losing the trail and post holed my way down the side of the mountain in 5 feet of snow. It was an adventure and beautiful but definitely stay on trail!! I had just hiking boots with yak trax and was wearing gators and I was totally fine until I got off trail. No one was around.

Beautiful snowy day! Took Grouse creek trail up, tried to cut over on meadow creek but too much snow, even with snowshoes. Besides cutting over, you could get away with just spikes. Slow long incline but no one around.

Did this trail with a small loop as recorded by Jeff Lamb. The grouse lake was fine until turning right to meadows mountain was not a trail at all but a difficult bushwack up the hill. The mountain meadow trail was not maintained at all. West grouse was nice with great scenery. Cannot recommend this as recorded. Go up either grouse lake or grouse creek.

This was a great trail. Beautiful and right along the raging waters! At about 2.5 miles the snow was a bit much for trail runner shoes, probably ok with some hiking boots. On the way down at the fork where you take a right there are tons of fallen trees in the trail that you have to climb over and the trail is hard to follow, we accidentally bushwhacked it for a while then found the trail again which was awesome. A few water crossings and maybe getting deeper over the next few weeks but overall a great hike!!

A quick easy trail down from where I lived. Theres so many trails in the area, I was born and raised in Eagle Ckunty and I still dont know them all. Good in the summer and fallz you would need snowshoes otherwise. Great for a quick hike that doesn't take long and has shade.

First to Review

Have done this hike in June over the past few summers when it was rainy/muddy/overcast and loved it! This week we did it on a sunny day in July and it kicked our butt. Almost no shade, and uphill most of the way. We ended up connecting through to the meadow mountain trail to finish. Don’t waste your time with the grouse lake trail in July, it’s very dry. We used to love the beginning of the lake trail because you get to cross over multiple streams, but this year one was completely bone dry. All trails on this mountain are too hot, buggy, and dry for July. Would consider doing it again in June maybe.
