A little slick going up Amphitheater side and spikes and poles were extremely helpful! Going down Gregory Canyon was warm, melted, a little slushy in places. Didn’t need spikes on the way down.
I intended to hike the Gregory Canyon trail and got so much more. Spikes/crampons are mandatory unless you are good at sliding.
Gregory canyon TH is closed (as of Friday 19th), so need to park outside. A lot of snow, tractions are needed in the steep parts
It was a cool experince. I’m definatly doing it again. Weather just turned a little ugly at the top. But still really cool.
Beautiful trail but it was crowded at the beginning and at the end we encountered a bunch of a-hole runners! Don’t be inconsiderate!
Great butt burner! I definitely recommend micro spikes or at the very least poles. I took my spikes on and off but per usual, super grateful I brought them.
Went clockwise (up amphitheater). Easier to do the steep stuff first, especially with the ice. Didn’t need spikes on the way up, although there are plenty of spots that require great care to pass without slipping (especially near the ladder.) Not a ton of spots on the way down where spikes needed, but definitely worth bringing for those spots on the descent. As always, great views of Longs and the Indian peaks wilderness from the top.
Covered in a blanket of snow from last night but by 830am already had tracks on all trails— lucky us not having to break trail or find the trail! This was a steep one but trail is in good condition. We used microspikes the whole time. Trail was getting real busy by early afternoon.
VERY ICY! Hiked this loop today from the Castle Rock trailhead just up the road from Gregory Canyon since the Gregory Canyon trailhead was closed. Highly recommend spikes. Stretches of the trail are covered in ice. We did not have them and we both wiped out a few times. Nice trail, good elevation gain!
