Getting There

This is a great moderately challenging loop with excellent views throughout. The trail is steep but generally well-shaded through the Flatirons. Most of it consists of single-track trail, except for a brief stretch along an old roadbed near the top of Gregory Canyon Trail. There are rocky steps on both the Flagstaff and Gregory Canyon portions of the trail. Trails in the area are open to dogs but closed to bikes. Users note that the offline map is recommended. It can be easy to take a wrong turn onto the wrong trail.

Parking adjacent to the loop requires a fee unless personal vehicles are registered in Boulder County. Parking is free on weekdays.

Great trail mainly through the woods but also some good views! Dogs are allowed on the whole trail (someone mentioned below that they aren’t).

Beautiful hike, barely and ice on the trail left. Make sure to download the various maps. It’s easy to find yourself on connecting trails be accident.

Beautiful trail! Definitely recommend downloading or referring to the map often. It’s easy to lose your way or detour if you’re trying to complete the entire loop. Trail was steep at the beginning, but the views are well worth it!

I have done this with normal shoes. the only bad thing is you might have to cross a few roads.

Just an FYI that dogs are prohibited on the Flagstaff trail portion from Nov 1- May 1. I couldn’t complete the loop because of this.

We took the Baseline Trail from Chautauqua and connected with this. Beautiful views! Some snowy/slick spots but we were still able to navigate in sneakers.

Beautiful hike and views. Several road crossings was the only issue. Some snow packed areas but we were fine with tennis shoes.

Good packed snow, fine with regular hiking shoes! Great view, not many people. Slushy and muddy in the last 5-10 mins.

This was a really cool hike. Worth starying earlier right after a small snow sqwal. When the sun came out and the fog was rolling over the mountains. Makes for a great sight.

It was hot out today, so there were only two small parts of the trail that were still solid ice - right at the beginning, and about halfway through. I had hiking boots on without spikes and I was fine. I saw other people in just running shoes do it too. Great variety of views, and I recommend doing it clockwise.

The first 2 miles are steep, uphill but the way back down flagstaff evens out the difficulty. A little slushy in parts

It’s about a mile from chataqua parking to Gregory trailhead. Lots of slushy melting snow and then ice that requires spikes once on Gregory. I realized it would take me a lot longer than I anticipated so took the Crown Rock trail as a shortcut. Nice trail with quick elevation. The part from flagstaff back to Gregory is on the road but it’s closed. I ended in the dark but there were still a number of hikers coming off all the various trails to the parking lot. I want to go back and do the full loop.
