Green Mountain West Trail is a 6.4 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Boulder, Colorado that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
The Green Mountain West Trail is one of the most popular trails in Boulder Open Space. The trailhead is located right off Flagstaff road. There are beautiful wildflowers and lush evergreen forest along the Green Mountain West Ridge Trail. From the summit of Green Mountain, enjoy 360-degree views of Bear Peak, South Boulder Peak, and the famous 14ers to the west. If you’d like to continue your hike, you can take the Green Bear Trail towards Bear Canyon. There is a decent amount of elevation gain if you choose to continue that way. Otherwise continue straight back to the parking area and enjoy the beautiful views of Boulder Colorado.
We broke trail in about 6” of snow starting at 8:00am. Great views from the summit. Completed with Gabe and Blaze.
great trail. challenging incline at the end. no spikes needed. busy summit but was fun.
One of my favorite Boulder hikes! Nice incline at the end with an awesome view for the payoff.
Dogs need to be leashed until the last quarter mile. Then they can be off leash
Great hike! Pretty flat and easy until the last bit then lots of steps to reach the top. Great views!!
Good hike! Snowy, muddy, and slushy, but not terrible. I hiked with a good pair of boots, no micro spikes, and it was good most of the way up. There were a few areas where I wish I had spikes, but it wasn’t anything impossible. Other than that it was shady for most of the way and pretty easy until about half a mile before the peak.
Lateral approach makes for an accessible hike until the very last push. Muddy and snowy.
Lots of snow turned to slush and icy on all the ascents. Most of the stairs were snow packed and you definitely need microspikes.
Great trail. We made a mistake and took a trail down Bear instead of staying to the left and had to climb back up and then hit the top. Beautiful views from the top and well worth the effort. We had yaktrax on and I was thankful - there were slippery spots and some still with a bit of ice.
Awesome trail! Really loved it in the packed snow, I highly recommend using spikes though. Pretty icy towards the top, going to be difficult without spikes. Rad views at the peak!
Beautiful but you’ll definitely want spikes! Very slippery out there.
Only summited Green, snow was crazy and some how way more mileage than the full 3 summits should have been
Awesome views! The entire trail is snowy. Did it with spikes, but we saw some people who didn’t, though they looked like they were slipping quite a bit.
