Gem Lake is a great little hike with some awesome views of Estes Park. The hike starts just outside of Estes up Devils Gulch Road. Turn on to Lumpy Ridge Road and park in the lot. Dogs are not allowed.

Loved the hike today to Gem Lake. Well worth it once you make it to the lake. Nice views along the way. Will hike it again with the kids next time. The last 1/4 of the way up will really work your thighs.

A very, very nice trail. Snowed yesterday so that added to the beauty. Some aspens were done. but there was a wonderful group about 80% of the way up.

Hiked the day after the first snow of the season. Temp was high 20s / low 30s, so it there wasn’t much traffic. Views to the west were spectacular, and walking through the aspen groves golden color was why we went.

One of my favorite hikes we’ve done, great leaves and rocks

Great hike! We love this hike. It is a good challenge with some actual climbing/scaling rocks. Recommend being in decent physical condition. The lake is awesome with the steep rocky backdrop and many, many tame chipmunks. Lots of crossing the creek so you get moving water almost all the way. Our teens like it too. Great family hike with some challenge to it.

Hiked this in early October 2018 with my 5 year old. Loved this hike. Beautiful views of Estes nearly the whole way. Gem lake is a little lake, but it’s a neat alcove with rocks for the kids to climb, and picnic.

Awesome little hike. Lots of cool terrain and great views!

Beautiful trees and color right now! Trees closer to bridal veil falls haven’t even peaked yet. Love how quiet this trail always is. We opted to get to bridal veil falls via gem lake/lumpy ridge, then finish at cow creek trailhead (we planted an extra car there), which was perfect.

The trail was rugged at certain points but thats what makes hiking challenging. I loved the scenery and Gem lake was so peaceful I didnt want to leave. Thank you God for this beautiful creation

Popular hike. Good amount of people but not out of control. The steep areas get your heart pumping for sure. Small lake but what I enjoyed most were the views towards the mountains on the way there and back. Popular trail so get there early if you want a parking space.

We love this trail! 6 & 5 yr old kids were able to make it to the lake. The views are hard to beat! Potty up near the lake which is nice. Lots of people on the weekends, especially Elk Festival! The Aspens are glowing and gorgeous this time of year. The trails are very well maintained - just wish more people would just stay on the trail! If you dip your feet in the lake be prepared to pick off tiny little leeches, they sucked but didn’t draw blood and were easy to pick off - just fyi

Absolutely fabulous. My favorite so far. On your way back take the lumpy ridge trail loop for the best view of Estes park ( according to locals), it totally worth it ! I think it s an extra mile, my phone went out of battery so it didn t record the second half and don t know the precise distance. The Gem lake is very cute, a great playground for kids with all the rocks and an area that could look like a mini beach:) the chipmunks were funny as well. Be careful if you have food they will jump on your knees to get it

Definitely worth it! Take your time, and enjoy the amazing views. This is not a flat trail by any means, so be aware of the terrain (tree roots, rocks, etc.) Very easy to follow.

Great trail that starts off with gravel and ends with some rockier terrain. Great for all levels. It’s windy out there so be careful with hats! The lake itself is a bit small but there’s great views along the way.

Gorgeous trail with mountain views and serene lake! You can actually access the trail head and the parking area without going into the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance. As a kid from FL (zero elevations), it was a challenging uphill climb, but definitely doable. We hiked it on a Thursday and there weren't a lot of people.

Gem Lake is a small jewel. The climb is pretty relentless and this is likely Moderate only due to its short length and ample resting spots. Definitely come early, late, and/or on a weekday if you want to avoid crowds.

Great trail! Challenging for me, considered moderate. A bit of climbing to reach the lake.. rock formations are cool. Totally worth the drive and the hike.. my knees would prefer I have poles for next go round.. one of my favorite hike now! I hiked alone and it was nice to have lots of other hikers on the trail. Parking lots was full, park on side of road..

For a short trail, you get a lot of value. Neat rock formations. Great intermittent views. Great little lake with surrounding rock walls. Lots of forest. Highly recommend this “gem” of a trail.
