Great trail with plenty of shade, beautiful trees, and wild flowers. The overlook is slightly overgrown, so couldn’t get a clear view of the river. Be warned, the first two miles are straight up—900 ft of elevation gain in two miles.

The Midwestern girl in me struggled with the altitude on this hike but it was more of a moderate hike. I also struggled with the flies. I don't know if I smelled like poop or flowers but there were constantly a buzz around me.However, that's what you get when you are hiking through wildflowers. For parking, I followed the directions on alltrails and then when I reached the destination there was a small parking spot area fit for 4-5 cars but we got a spot. The trailhead starts right across the street. We went at around 3 in the afternoon, we saw around 5 ppl on our hike. We did kindof wander off on some other trails. I think we got to the overlook but wasn't exactly sure. Our view was cool and the forest was so quiet and calm.

This was a quick one with the appropriate reward for the effort, as mentioned in previous reviews. We clocked the 4.1 miles in 1 hour 20 mins. Very generous calling it hard. However, it is a great one to start with if you are going to be lounging at Ruedi later in the day. We will go back for trail running would be perfect for that.

I would say this is a moderate trail, not difficult. The incline was perfect, didn’t have to work too hard to get to the top, but if I had I would have been very disappointed with the view- compared to other Colorado scenes the overlook wasn’t anything to write home about. There was a tree blocking a view of the reservoir and the only snow-capped peaks in sight were pretty far off.

Straightforward and pretty easy trail. beautiful views from the overlook but the views aren't totally unobstructed unfortunately.

Peaceful forested hike. I never found why it is rated ‘hard’ even by my Midwest standards ...fairly easy, actually. And also mis-named, as you have a lovely view of Ruedi, but only the dam that creates the Frying Pan.

I love this trail! I was on it yesterday and did see a momma and baby bear. The Thimble berries are just starting to ripen and this trail has these berries along most of it. I’m guessing there will be more bear sitings over the next week to 10 days as the berries ripen and the bears hang out to eat them. Might want to avoid this trail for a bit.
