a little snowy at times but overall good trail not a lot of ice!!! great views
Gregory Canyon itself is totally iced over, I fell multiple times going up using spikes. You're better off taking Flagstaff Trail up.
Nice hike with nice views along the way! Would recommend walking up to the amphitheater as the turning around point.
Less trafficked trail compared to the rest! We hikes to the amphitheater. A little Smokey but doable!
did this in early june. nice warm up trail for the season. the trail intersects with the road a couple times as well as multiple other trails so, like the other reviews say, pay attention. points off for that. my only complaint is that the trail winds around the mountain and ends in a parking lot! skip the end and take May's point instead- 1/10th of a mile to a beautiful view point of the valley and a peek of the snow capped high country.
Hiked Saturday May 23rd, Memorial Day weekend. We arrived at the trailhead at 7:15 a.m. and had to park down the street. However most of the folks had gone on a different trail. The first 1.5 miles is quite a rocky elevation gain section. Goes along the canyon with some narrow spots. The wild flowers are out, purple, yellow and some white. The trail takes you across Flagstaff road and at that point becomes a lot less rocky and this is where you see the mtn peaks. There are some beautiful short trails off shoots that have amazing look outs. At about the 2 mile mark the trail does cross about 3 others so be careful to pay attention to where you are headed. going up maybe 6 people, coming down after 9 there were about 30 folks going up.
Hiked on 3/14. Great day! Had spikes but didn’t use them. Most of the trail was fairly dry with exception of Boy Scout Trail section (snow/ice). Ended up making a loop at the end, instead of walking back on Boy Scout, walked briefly on the road and then took Flagstaff trail to Range View and back to Gregory canyon trail.
great views and a nice climb. lots of rocks so good hiking shoes are preferred.
The first part is not well marked so I highly recommend using the trail map. You have to cross the creek twice and the first crossing is hard to find.
Headed into Boulder to try out the Flagstaff Mountain Summit trail via Gregory Canyon. Rated as moderate on Alltrails I would rate this more on the moderate-hard for anyone with a respiratory issue. Although the views of Boulder and the Continental Divide are amazing even on a cloudy day, the trail I felt has much to be desired. The front half has a bit of light scrambling (if you have any kind of joint problems I advise not go this way) but once you cross the first of two small creeks the path is much less rocky and easier to navigate. There are still parts with some snow and ice and although I did have my micros with me I didn't need to use them. Also, make sure to be aware of all the trail signs as to not veer off the Gregory Canyon trail which can be easy to do. If I were to do this again I would do the Ute and Range View Trail as an alternative to experience these views.
