Sept 1, 2019. Went early 8am. Entered at Dumont parking lot but drove past Dumont to the next lot up to get a little bit closer to the trail entrance. We're beginners at mountain biking and didn't really know what to expect but heard great things and really just want to see Fishhook Lake and Lost Lake. Another couple arrived around the same time and we asked them about the difficulty and they said we would be fine. We stayed on the dirt road, low gear, and took us about 2 hours to get to Wyoming trail which takes you to the lakes. I think most other bikers take a bike trail and not the dirt road but we never saw it. once we got to Wyoming trail it was HARD! We walked our bikes the whole way to Fishhook Lake and never made it to Lost Lake. Glad we did it but next time would lock or bikes at Wyoming trail head and hike to the lakes. Also, make sure to wear a helmet! We looked like idiots with no helmets but at least we were walking our bikes the whole trail. Also the 'directions' link in the app takes you to the side of the road and not even to the trail entrance. Wish there had been more reviews about what to expect and where to park.

The last half mile on the way back to trailhead is 350ft up

Wildflower meadows were spectacular on the dirt road to get to the trail. We hiked much of the road because didn’t want to take the car on it. Loved getting to the lakes. The views from the dirt road were also stunning. Definitely used bug spray!

Teeming with mosquitoes when we went. Also, I can’t figure out the app today.

as of 7/7/19 FS 311 still has areas of heavy snow and is impassable by car, even with 4WD. we parked and walked 2.7 miles to the trailhead. The trail is still covered in snow and not well marked. Fish Creek was nearly impassable as well--heavy rapids and deep water had us walking up and down looking for a place to leap across. After we finally crossed Fish Creek the trail disappeared completely it looks like maybe it was washed out this spring. Sadly, we didn't make it to the lakes, but the hike itself was wonderful. Fish Creek Canyon is gorgeous! would do it again later in the summer!

Did this hike from Base Camp Trailhead to Fish Creek Trailhead down in town. Around 13 miles via Wyoming Trail(CDT)(trail 1101) and Fish Creek Trail(1102). Fish creek canyon is amazing. The lakes are okay, not what I was expecting.

Great hike with the family. At fishhook lake, lots of fish to catch! Keep going up to Lake Elmo for another beautifully secluded lake. The road leading to the trailhead is very rough and narrow at times. Recommend 4 wheel drive.

This trail is heavily used by mountain bikers. The hike itself is beautiful with three lakes in one hike. FYI: at the Lost Lake/Lake Elmo junction.. Lost Lake is the shorter to hike to.. literally just around the corner. Elmo Lake is about a mile further from the junction.

This hike has gorgeous wildflowers (late July) and three pretty lakes spread out along the hike. It’s a great off-leash trail for dogs since it’s not crowded and has fresh water to play in. Next time we plan to pack tents in and camp lakeside.

Turn-off from 40 is open as of 8/12/17. FS road: recommend high clearance vehicle or 4WD if muddy. Good hike.

We started from Dumont lake and it was about 5.5 miles to Fishhook lake. Wild flowers were incredible! After our trip we drove up base camp road and it was pretty gnarly in some spots and some serious mud to get through after two heavy thundershowers passed through, but we made it my subi SUV. Lots of mountain bikers on the trail. Beautiful hike and great for backpacking. You may even meet some folks doing the CDT from Mexico to Canada.

Beautiful hike! The drive to the trailhead is just as fun. For planning purposes, be aware it takes an hour from Steamboat downtown to get to the trailhead. We had to turn around at Lost Lake instead of going on since we hadn't realized how long it would take.

I did this trail as part of longer ride from Dumont Lake to Long Lake. Blooming wildflowers, clear lakes, open meadows, big skies.

Beautiful trail and fairly secluded, but mosquitoes can get ugly.
