Getting There

Fish Creek Falls is a 283 foot waterfall located about 5 miles outside of Steamboat Springs. The route is used by hikers during the summer and is a beautiful trail to snowshoe in the winter. Along the way you'll pass by two beautiful waterfalls, Lower and Upper Fish Creek Falls. The lower falls are generally more impressive. You can enjoy a great view from a stroller/wheelchair-friendly path to the overlook. The trail gets rocky and technical after the first waterfall, but there's plenty of shade and opportunities to rest. Note: $5 Parking Fee

$5 Day use fees. There are two parking lots. The lower parking lot is 1/4 mile from the main upper parking lot. There are two bathrooms, one located in the upper parking lot, one located in the picnic area. There are picnic tables in the picnic area and two more picnic tables in the upper overlook. There are shaded gazebo's in the main parking lot and in the upper overlook.

Sits about 5 miles east of Steamboat. Find 3rd Street in the downtown area and the intersection of US 40 (Lincoln). Turn north, go on block then turn right onto Fish Creek Falls Road. Proceed 3 miles up Fish Creek Falls Road to the Fish Creek Falls Recreation Area. Entering the recreation area there will be a small booth, if it is manned you can pay the day use fee there. You may park at the lower parking lot and walk 1/4 mile to the upper parking lot and the trail head, or drive up to the upper parking lot.

Beautiful hike but way too congested. And too many ignoramuses (85%) were not wearing masks (you know, the state law). Won't do it again on a weekend.

Great hike and beautiful falls. Go EARLY to avoid crowds. It’s definitely worth going the extra way to Long Lake... 6 miles from the TH, so total of 12 miles round trip. No people past the upper falls and the walk from there to Long Lake is easy and beautiful. Saw a Cow and Calf Moose in the meadow.

I went by recommendation of a cousin. I enjoy the trail. Beautiful time of the year to come with the change of leaves. First time doing a hard trail so I went at my own pace. Went with my sister and niece. They said is was horrible, but they confirm that they don't like to hike like me. So if you are beginner I wouldn't recommend the long trail. Just do the upper trail or hike to the first waterfall. The first waterfall is more beautiful than the second one. Do recommend to go early to find parking fast and hike when is less crowded. If you can go during the week day better.

HikingGreat!

A great over all trail. We found our hiking poles useful when the trail got rocky and the elevations increased. On beautiful fall weekend, the trail was packed and most people weren’t wearing masks. We got there at 7:30, lots of parking and lighting was beautiful. We are in our 60’s and did hike in about 3 1/2 hours.

HikingGreat!

Beautiful vegetation, great views of the aspen groves, canyons and falls. We did the full hike to the upper falls. I am 63 and my husband is 71. Not too much difficulty. We took walking sticks which were a great help especially on the down hill. It took us about 31/2 hours. We had to move to the side many times as there were many people going up and down. Tired upon return.

Pretty darn crowded. Annoying to pass people every 50 ft with the thin trail.

This one is a great trail with spectacular views and waterfalls. The hike to the lower falls is super easy and very short. It is beautiful. If you decide to continue to the upper falls, get ready for a steady uphill hike with just a little bit of scrambling close to the end. You will pass through a beautiful Aspen grove and have plenty of beautiful views of rock faces and Steamboat. The upper falls are worth the extra almost two miles past the lower falls. This one is rated hard, but our three year-old hikes the whole way out with a little bit of hand holding. Get there really early as the parking lot fills up fast.

HikingGreat!

Fantastic trail! Only problem - it's close to town, and everybody wants to go there. We first went there last Saturday, and it was packed! Nowhere to park, and we didn't want to wait and deal with so many people. So, we did another trail that day and came back here on Wednesday. Much better! Lots of parking places and a manageable number of people. The falls are gorgeous - both the lower falls and the upper falls. Lots of cool trees and vegetation along the way. The uphill is mostly manageable, a little steep at times. No bikes! Would give this trail a 10.

HikingGreat!

Went 9/18 on a Friday at 8:30am, hardly anyone on trail. Took 1 hour and 15 min up without breaking much. Coming down took 1 hour 10-11am and counted 30 groups of people. So go early. Didn’t need sunscreen since lots of shade. Beautiful hike with aspens & waterfalls!

Very pretty and easy to get to. The trail is well maintained. The majority is shaded, just the last 1/2 mile or so is open rock. Our kids had fun scrabbling around the rocks and the creek under the waterfalls.

Nice short hike. Gets crowded, especially close to trailhead/lower overlook so I second earlier reviews and recommend going early. Upper falls was worth it in my opinion. Leaves changing and aspen groves were very pretty.

like the trail overall, but gets very crowded. we started early and avoided crowds going up, but coming down was crazy. lots of brush and downed trees from the storm last week, but the rangers have cleaned the trees from the trail.

Protip: Once you get to the Falls, hike up farther to the rocky ridgeline and get a nice view into the valley.

Great Views the entire trip, take time to stop and look around. Great couple hour hike. Kudos to the USFS and locals for cleaning up the trail after a windstorm two days prior.

Hiked 5 miles to the top with the waterfall and little lake. Scrambled around the rocks to get the better photos of the green water and waterfall. It was gorgeous. Little hazy sky from fires.
