Idyllic lake and the wildflowers are out of control right now! We backpacked to the lake which was ~3 miles, skipped the pass.

Trailhead was easy to find. Trail was pretty steep and challenging. I climbed with my wife and 2 daughters (12 & 9). They did great, bring plenty of food and water. Took us about 2hours, 15 minutes to get to the lake. Then we turned around and headed down (probably 1.5 hours down). We were pretty beat at the end but it was a great day. The payoff of the lake was just beautiful. No cell coverage so download your map and charge your phone.

Incredibly beautiful hike. The wildflowers are in full bloom. Started hiking at 830, already a decent amount of cars in the lot. Be prepared for weather and work to avoid getting caught on the passes (start early).

This was a great hike. We started out towards fancy lake and did a counterclockwise loop. Fair amount of shade in the first part of the trail. Going up from fancy lake over the pass to Missouri lake, fair amount of snow but doable. Very cool avalanche damage down for Missouri lake, probably 1/3 of a mile wide

Beautiful, but extremely crowded. More than 20 cars in the lot/along the road on Friday at noon. Probably closer to 30 when we left on Sunday. I’m not sure if this is typical, but if so, I would definitely call this highly trafficked vs moderately trafficked.

HikingGreat!

The last stretch of road from Rt 24 is definitely bumpy and rough at times. 11 miles. We arrived at 11:30. and there were a couple spots to park. The trail is beautiful! Good mix of uphill and flat sections. Wasn't crowded and the final ascent is worth the effort! We spent an hour at the lake and basically had it to ourselves. Will be back!

We reached the lake in just under 2 hours. The trail gets snowy from there. We scrambled along the rocks rather than hike up the final steep push in the snow.

This is a lot of up but well worth it! We saw a moose on the road there. Low/moderate traffic. The lake was still quite froze over, but we saw small trout swimming by the shore. This was our first hike of our trip (flatlanders with 11 year old), so we took some water breaks and the round trip to fancy lake took us 3.5 hours. Nice stream sounds and views most of the way!

6.20.20 We went counter-clockwise starting with Fancy Pass. Trail is easy to follow all the way to the pass, but does get snowy the last mile. Would highly suggest traction for the last gully through the pass. The view from the top is one of the best I have seen. Once over the pass the whole area to get back to the ridge for the Missouri side is snow filled. It is very hard to stay on trail. Sometimes the snow would hold and sometimes we would post hole. Coming down from the ridge was snowy and steep...again traction highly recommended. The views on the way down were also amazing. We wore gaitors to help stay dry, but our feet were still soaked by the end. There is a side route through the avalanche debris area that is clearly marked. We clocked the trail at 9.6 miles total.

Hiked this on memorial day. Couldn’t make it to the top because of too much snow. However the hike that we did complete it was beautiful. I accidentally left my map on as we drove out of Homestake area

Easy access to the trailhead, tons of parking. The trail was definitely difficult- lots of switch backs and steep inclines. But well worth it!!! The views were breathtaking.

This is a real beauty. Climb is challenging but there are flat parts to the trail that motivate you to keep going. Fancy lake and surrounding area is gorgeous.

Caveat this is a 5 star trail in lighter snow year summers. Hiked 7/20. Took trail to avoid avalanche debris on Missouri lakes. Bring microspikes. Lots of snow, very steep, through fancy pass! Fancy lake is beautiful! Don’ let the mileage fool you, though, this is a substantial hike (especially after fancy lake). Not a lot of camping off the trail. Water features are spectacular. Feels very pacific NW right here in colorful Colorado. When clear of snow & debris, there are few places more beautiful in CO than the Missouri lakes loop. Sadly, there just is no easy way to get to missouri lakes in the summer of 2019

July 6, 2019 Extremely snowy and almost impossible to find the trial after 2-3 miles. Other than that it was a fun hike and will definitely be back later in the year

Great hike to Fancy Lake today-9/19/18. We didn’t start til noon. Fairly easy climb. Lots of good switchbacks. Thank you trail groomers! This lake is stunningly beautiful! Next time we’ll hike on through to Missouri Lake.
