Beautiful trail! Classic ponderosa pine forest with plenty of firs and wild flowers and rocks to enjoy. Bathrooms were closed due to COVID. Trail to Disappointment Falls was very flat and accessable, plenty of families with dogs didn't have a problem getting there. There were cattle by the front gate, please remember to make sure those gates are closed! This land is protected under a shared-use philosophy so please be respectful to everyone who uses this land! Along the Elkhorn Creek Trail you could see the Shambhala Mountain Temple, very cool. Enjoyed this area so much, can't wait to go back for a camping trip!

It’s terrible that cattle are allowed to destroy these public lands. Cow pies everywhere, the stream polluted with urine all so one rancher can have free feed. Leave the gate open. Let the out. Time to end this practice in Colorado

Real easy trail for those with little ones or those in need of some time to kill. Wildflowers have begun to bloom, which make the short journey worth it. If you have more time, take the Lady Moon trail to Disappointment Falls. We traversed over to the falls from the end of the trail after reading one of the reviews below. I do not recommend it. It is steep, slippery (moss and pine needles on smooth rock faces) and lots of fallen trees.

Did a one night backpacking trip and hit all the major places! Did it solo and only Mt Margaret trail was crowded, other trails were quiet and dispersed camping was in abundance!

Unfortunately the free range cattle Have ruined this trail along with so many more. I don’t understand why one rancher in order to save money on food is able to destroy a pristine public area Leave the gate open - let the cattle out Hike with wire cutters cut the Barb wire

Please be cautious of moose in the area! I live in the area and hike these trails often and have seen moose numerous times, especially April-June. The signage on these trails aren't great so it can be easy to get lost. The Elkhorn Creek trail is a bit misleading on this map; there are parts that connect that look like they don't and vice versa.

We followed the Elkhorn Creek Trail, having downloaded to smartphone, and followed the GPS tracking to make sure we were on the right trail. It was an uninspiring walk on a dirt trail with nice views, but not what we expected ending in some old pasture. More people seemed to have taken the trail on the right of the parking lot, The Lady Moon Trail, to the Disappointment Falls Trail. We actually walked on other trails on the way back and found a trail to the creek, so whoever made this GPS tracking trail should have said it ended in some pasture not 'on a creek trail'. Next time I go back I'll be better prepared to send All Trails a correction with photos to be included.

needs better signage but if you use a map and compass you won't get lost. lots of downed trees by the falls

I did this in conjunction with Lady Moon and a bit of Granite Ridge, making a solid 12 mile loop. Once you get a little ways back the trails aren't as well maintained or as visible as the sign at the trailhead would lead one to believe. Very isolated with a number of out and back spurs with improvised campsites to explore. Lots of sign, but didn't see anything other than birds and a good amount of bones. For solitude and peace, it's hard to beat.

Got a quarter of a mile up and there was a moose laying down on the side of the trail! So we turned around...

This is a beautiful area. I did have a hard time following the trails and sometimes I couldn't even find them. There are numerous walking, jeep and cow trails that crisscross. I recommend taking a map or a picture of the map at the trailhead so you have a general sense of where you are. I hiked to Disappointment Falls then made a loop with Lady Moon, Granite Ridge and Elkhorn Creek trails. There was no one else around so it's a great place if you want some peace and quiet.
