3 miles from parking lot round trip. beautiful scenery. You will know when you get to the end
This was a great trail for the fall temperatures. We thought it was closer to moderate than easy but not too challenging. Interesting combination of sandy desert single file trail and also lots of climbing up and over rocks, to the canyon shaded by trees and beautiful rock walls. Almost no water this time of year.
I loved this trail. I did it immediately following Serpent's Trail on a 95 degree day and was so grateful for the varied landscape after the slab crawl on the first chunk of this hike. I was also the only person on this trail on a Thursday afternoon. A flashy collared lizard came out for a photo shoot. The canyon itself is large and impressive with a wallside stream, when there's enough water. My voice doesn't project well but I imagine the acoustics are stellar. At the very end there was a brown pond. A hydration oasis for the wearied traveler to cover themselves in mud for a cool-down. Thankfully I still had water in my pack and did not indulge in this surprise spa day. On the way out right before the trailhead marker for the split, I ran into a man from the archeology club who showed me some rock carvings. What a cool way to end a hot hike.
Varied terrain (dirt to rock to sand) was tough on the knees and feet, but interesting hike. No one else was there
