We did half the trail as a team retreat and came back along the road to speed it up. Lots of Mountain Bikers coming the opposite direction.

Great trail for our daughter’s puppy’s first hike. Trail is narrow but able to step off to let bikes and horses pass. Bikers are very courteous.

From the Timber Trail parking lot you will start on the West Valley Trail. Today it is extremely muddy. The views are quite nice, but I would definitely only do this in cooler weather. There's no shade at all. The West Valley Trail does link to several other trails that will take you up into the mountains. So there are many options starting from that trail. This Loop was nice and very easy.

This trail is super easy and a great one if you're limited on time. I took my German Shepherd in it today since a lot of other trails were closed due to conditions. It was really MUDDY, FYI. But it was a gorgeous day, easy trek. I parked at Howard Homestead, entered trail there, and came back to the car via main road. Good jaunt for the pup.

Easy but beautiful! Not a lot of shade. Can access the reservoir from part of the East trail.

Great beginner trail. Short but definitely got a workout. My 8 yr old did it and even with his bike that has no gears. The east valley trail will lead you to a cove on horestooth reservoir or you can take it to arthur's rock! My husband thought it was too easy but if you've never done mountain biking and aren't used to single tracks i think this is perfect to start out on.

Not hard to find, though I'm not really crazy about the Lory State Park trail map. Encountered a few mountain bikers and runners on the trail but there was room to step off and let them pass. We hiked the East Valley trail and found it easy with a beautiful view at the end of both sides of the valley - the lush, tree side and the other red rock side. Could also see the reservoir from the trail. Several places to enter the trail. We were going to hike the West Valley trail but we got sidetracked on the Shoreline trail. It ran to the reservoir which our feet greatly appreciated when we were soaking them in the cool water...but we decided to follow the shoreline back to the next cove and catch the West trail there. It was fun to do the shoreline but it was really rocky for the most part and a little steep in places and it certainly took us much longer than if we had gone back up the way we had come and finished the hike on the trail.
