Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $25 per vehicle or $20 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $15 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $45. Please be aware that the fees will increase on Jan 1, 2021. Starting from the end of the campground, this trail tracks mostly north, following along a relatively gentle stretch of river. From this side of the water, you'll be able to admire the dramatic cliffs on the other side. Take note of the tilted beds and incredible structures, which hint at the geologic processes that shaped the region.

It was nice, except it was cold and rainy. Beautiful views though!

Great trail! Not too difficult but do have to navigate very rocky sections. Amazing views. Would definitely recommend pants rather than shorts since there are areas of really tall grass.

Why does this have so many negative reviews? I thought it was a beautiful place with a completely different viewpoint compared to being on North or South rim. The drive down is steep but not bad. It's true that a lot of the trail is navigated by hopping rocks or rock scrambling to stay out of the water, and much of it is currently overgrown, and for that I would give it more of an intermediate rating (the first 1/3 of the trail is easy). Check my photos--I really think it's worth the trip.

This is a good way to actually get on the river and see the canyon from the bottom up. There is some poison ivy to avoid and a lot of scrambling if you want to stay dry.

Really not worth the trouble. Mesa Creek Trail has mildly better views and is an actual maintained trail unlike this one. For the best inner canyon views without descending from the rim, do the Curecanti Creek Trail on the other side of the canyon.

We turned back after just staring out because the wind was picking up. Cool experience being at the bottom of the canyon with rain approaching.

First half of the hike was easy. After that it turned into scrambling over rocky terrain. We had to turn back.

Worth doing if you have some extra time, but if your time is limited, I'd skip it. Much better views along the rim.

After looking down at the river from the North Rim yesterday it was great to actually get to see the river this close. Absolutely Beautiful

Great walk along river. Loads of birds! Lots of rocks but easy enough!
