The trail was great! I won’t lie - the first half is pretty flat and boring. But the second half of the trail is worth it, ESPECIALLY for the amazing views towards the top!!

Pleasant and dry until I left around 1:00. Cold front and rain moving in so most likely a little muddy tomorrow

4/2/21 - Easy moderate hike with minimal shade. Trail is mostly dry, except slightly muddy after the last switchback. Nice view of the Flatirons. Parking is $5, unless your car is registered to Boulder County.

WalkingGreat!

BEWARE COYOTE FOLLOWING WOMAN WITH 2 SMALL DOGS. got about a half mile in before we encountered a terrified woman on the trail with 2 small dogs. said she saw a coyote at the top and it followed her all the way down. she had rocks in her coat. we escortes her back to her car and saw the coyote 4 more times. seemed like it was keeping an eye on us. this was around dusk. beautiful there, id like to go back to finish it but maybe take some bear mace as well.

Beautiful and peaceful, but a LOT of bikers. Had to scramble out of the way a few times!

HikingFee

Clean open trail. $5 fee for non-residents of Boulder County. Several bikes but they seemed to be considerate of hikers. I was out scouting locations for EarthCaches and there are plenty of geological features to chose from. The Parking lot does seem to fill up quickly so I would make this trip early.

Nice trail. Snow packed but could be pretty muddy on a warmer afternoon.

Made for a lovely 5 mile run with the Springbrook South loop. Ran in to 3 coyotes about 1.5 miles in coming around and up a curve. One on the trail, the other two in the grass near. I yelled but they kept slowly coming toward me so I threw a rock and they all ran off into the hills. Had me thinking...coyotes or wolves? they looked very wolf-like...

Great easy hike. Not a lot of people on a Wednesday morning. Beautiful views at the top. Minimal shade for dogs for the first 1.5 miles, but once you get to the actual climb it gets very nice and cool and shady the whole way up.

Parking is often difficult at Dowdy Draw and South Mesa Trailheads. Parked 1/3 mile up 170 to access Dowdy Draw Sunday at 9:30 am. Well carved trail. About 1/3 of the trail is shaded, perhaps as little as 1/4, spread out fairly evenly around the two loops. Thought perhaps the only reason the trail is not “easy” is because it’s not paved. If you want miles without verticality, this may be your ticket.
