Diamond Peaks is a 6.8 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Walden, Colorado that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and ohv/off road driving and is best used from June until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
FIRE CLOSURE: As of January 2021, there are closures in this park or area due to wildfire. For more information, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/arp/alerts-notices. If you hike, there is some highway walking at the end of this route (from Cameron Pass parking lot back to Zimmerman Lake parking lot), but the shoulder is pretty wide. After Montgomery Pass, the trail can be difficult to find and seems to be nonexistent at times. Can be driven by motorcycles or ATVs but not cars.
Trail was nearly impossible to follow, and sketchy in the areas that it existed. Started at the diamond peak trailhead and went up the drainage (very steep) until I lost the trail, then just bushwhacked up past treeline and wandered until I was on top of the peak. Definitely not the best hike in the area, despite the views.
Hiked as an out and back thanks to the previous reviews. Fairly steep the entire way up, but very beautiful trail! Wind was brutal
Incredible views. If you want a ridge hike with crazy views this is a winner. One of my favorites in the area. Be prepared for wind up top Trail back down to Cameron pass can be a little tricky in places but use your all trails app and you should be able to join up with it.
Did this loop back in October 2019. I started from the parking lot across from the Michigan Ditch trail and went clockwise, ending at the Montgomery Pass trailhead and following CO-14 back to my car. It definitely feels like you're making the trail up half the time, but since the main goal is to gain and follow the ridge, it's pretty intuitive. The walk along the road to make it a loop was pretty lame, and next time I'll probably just do this as an out & back. The views were incredible, but the wind was relentless on the ridge (which is the majority of the hike), and since it was October, it was just a little too cold to be enjoyable. I'd like to venture back during the summer months to give this hike a second chance.
Great trail, light snow in spots. Lot of exposure once above tree line with spectacular views. I followed the tracks on All Trails and my garmin read 6800ft elevation gain through out the hike. If following this map on this app know it’s 5.5 miles of hiking and then the rest is walking from Cameron pass lot back to your car along the road. Great hike took 2 hours and 45 min to do the loop with an average of 1.8mph. Views are worth every step!
Fun place to ski/ snowboard backcountry. Parking does fill up fast!
Great hike with my dog. Saw cars in the lot but very few hikers doing the same trail. Trail was hard to follow after I summited but we were never too far off. Definitely wildlife in the area. Noticed elk/moose dropping along the path and my dog wanted to sniff every single tree from then on. Would do this again.
Steep at parts. Didn’t think the trail was as hard to follow as some described!
