Getting There

Please note: this trail may closed seasonally during muddy conditions. Please consult the park's website before visiting. An extension to the Devils Backbone Interpretive Trail. After a short but fairly steep uphill you will enter a rolling plateau that has some awesome views of the CO foothills with Longs Peak in the background. If you're quiet and observant you may see some deer along with other wildlife. For an area that is so close to civilization the quiet and solitude of this place is a nice respite. The views of the Devils Backbone from the summit gives a different view to this geological wonder. There are a number of continuous trails to Devil's Backbone. To the south of the starting area is Morrison Loop which is WHEELCHAIR accessible and about .8 miles. Starting to the north is Keyhole or Wild Loop which is the popular hike of about 2.6 miles.

Just on the west side of Loveland. A great little hike to get your legs moving. Watch out for the wind through the keyhole!

Easy hike. I like to trail run this loop, the path off to the East allows for bikers, horse and trail runners only. It's a great even elevation with few moguls. Not a lot of shade, great hike/run in the fall

Great bang for your buck. Super close to Loveland, very easy and well-trodden trail, and cool views. No shade at all, so don’t go during the middle of the day if it’s hot out.

very nice trail and well maintained. We got there at 8:30am on a Saturday and the parking lot was only half full. When we finished around 10am the parking lot was full and there were a ton of people coming up the trail. Most people were respectful and stepped aside to pass but few were wearing masks. It was getting hot by 10am so I'm glad we went early. Views were wonderful and it wasn't too smokey today.

I would recommend getting there before the sun! It’s hot! Dog friendly. A little crowded but manageable.
