An extension to the Devils Backbone Interpretive Trail. After a short but fairly steep uphill you will enter a rolling plateau that has some awesome views of the CO foothills with Longs Peak in the background. If you're quiet and observant you may see some deer along with other wildlife. For an area that is so close to civilization the quiet and solitude of this place is a nice respite. The views of the Devils Backbone from the summit gives a different view to this geological wonder. There are a number of continuous trails to Devil's Backbone. To the south of the starting area is Morrison Loop which is WHEELCHAIR accessible and about .8 miles. Starting to the north is Keyhole or Wild Loop which is the popular hike of about 2.6 miles.

No shade was it's only fault. There are some rocky bits but easy enough to walk over. The views were lovely and the path was very easy to walk. Plenty of small Wildlife: bugs, birds, snakes. Be aware.

Very nice trail, well marked. Beautiful scenery looking through the keyhole! Plenty of parking at the trailhead along with water and restrooms .

Nice out and back. Cool temp to start but warmed by time we finished. Recommend doing this trail in the morning.

Clearly marked trail with neat views of the backbone from ground level and above at the end (Hunter’s Loop). There are definitely rattlesnakes in the area, I saw one coming back to the parking lot - be careful!

Love this trail! Not too flat but also not too challenging. Great for a morning hike.

Can be very busy on weekends, also has been closed when muddy when we've tried to go before. When its not so busy its a really fun trail out in the open hillsides along the backbone rock formations which is pretty cool. No shade along the way at all. Can do a short loop to the keyhole and back or go further for more great views of the whole formation farther down the trail.

Great hike with great views. Even glimpsed a large bull elk on the ridge.

The trail is well marked and well maintained. I did it on a Wednesday morning and it wasn’t very busy. I am just getting back into biking this year and ride a hard tail. I ended up walking a fair number of sections. It was a very fun trail with some pretty technical spots. The single track was a blast. I’ll try it again soon. Hopefully I’ll walk a little less next time.

Hike this trail a lot as I live right by it. Recently had to stop as it is prime snake season and my dog loves to go at the snakes. Be aware of the snakes all around this area.

I really love how you can change the difficulty every time you go. I tend to go all the way to blue sky and back. It's a really beautiful trail. Watch out for bikes though.
