Gorgeous and pretty mellow

One of my favorite hikes in the state. Quiet, out of the way, and beautiful. Anthracite Creek is amazingly clear (and can rage in the spring after a heavy winter). Small trout can be caught in the creek.

We entered the Canyon from the West and encountered 18" of snow November 22, 2013. Difficult travelling, many mountain lion tracks, very cold. We were on our NOLS independent travel for Outdoor Education. No Shoe shoes. Trudging with 60 lbs on our backs.

Very beautiful. We went over memorial day weekend so it was a little crowded. But we loved it. Had some great swimming holes and beautiful rock formations.
