Good trail and views. Not too crowded. The river has a ton of places to stop and play. The lake was average for the Rockies. Parking can be an issue and the trail head is a mile walk from the shuttle drop off

Nature trips

Great trail with a variety of terrain. Some rocky areas. Recommend morning if you can get in then. Park has timed entrance right now. That being said, afternoon was great too. We were fortunate enough to see a large elk herd, a marmot, ducks and lots of chipmunks. We had a group of 13. Different ages and abilities. Teens did fine, Those under 10 did awesome but pretty wiped out by the end. Great way to wear them out! :)

HikingGreat!Rocky

Great hike with spectacular boulders and a nice lily pad lake at the end. Some gain but had kids and they did fine with breaks. Not really a lake to take a swim in if that’s your thing. 4 stars only because it was pretty crowded. Started our hike around 11am (due to park pass system).

First of all, for those who didn’t fully enjoy Cub Lake, I’m sorry. Cub is an easy hike - one that is a great first hike, fun for kids, and has a lot of interesting things to see along the way. I do this hike every year for one simple reason....I want to watch how the forest rejuvenates itself after a fire. It is quite a marvel watching it come back to life. Today’s adventure was no different. We saw a mama moose and her baby - up close, flowers, new trees, lily pads, ducks, varmits, beautiful views and a number of fellow hikers. Is it the prettiest lake in the park?? Not at the moment, no. But give it some time and it will restore itself to its former glory. As for now, it is an easy way to see what nature does best! PS - Thank you to those who masked up. And to those who left your mask in the car.... please, please — Next time, make sure it is part of your pack. Consider this your Public Service Announcement!

Did this trail for on 8/1. Not too crowded. The trail and lake were both a bit underwhelming. There’s a lot better options in RMNP.

This was by far my best hike in RMNP in over 45 years of hiking. We saw more wildlife of various kinds than we have ever seen.

Completed 7/17/20. What a lovely first hike at RMNP! We arrived at the trailhead just after 8am with plenty of parking still available. We saw a moose from a distance as we made our way through the meadows. The elevation picks up as you approach the lake, but it’s quite moderate. The lake is beautiful—so many water lilies! We rested, rehydrated, and refueled on the shore, and we were joined by a family of ducks. The descent is short and sweet. This trail is a great alternative to the Bear Lake trails if parking is full and you’d rather skip the shuttle!

Great trail for kids. My 9 and 4 year old made it. 4 year old hiked about 2 miles out, slept in my pack the way down. A lot of shade. Saw a pack (6) of deer and 2 moose! Must wear bug spray!!!! I was bitten 11 times and my husband was too! Aggressive mosquitos, no matter what time of day. Went on a Saturday at 9:30am, not too busy.
