in the past we used this trail a lot. However, a couple of years ago, it started being patrolled daily by the city of Boulder animal control ticketing people for dogs swimming and being off leash. In the newspaper, they bragged of being there pretty much all of the time. It is under the control of the city of Boulder so those rules apply, and are very different from the Boulder County rules we were all following. it was just a convenient little county park. Too bad it became a highly - policed place to play with your dogs.

Dog owners please be cautious! Unfortunately last night our dog was bit by a rattlesnake in the tall grass around Coot Lake. We LOVE this area and go there 3-4 times a week and never had an issue until last night.

Nice wide open space with lots of happy dogs and a lake. no elevation to speak of so not really a work-out, but certainly beautiful.

Pretty spot, but the loop trail is under construction. Now a short out and back. Check construction status before going.

Definitely a favorite spot to take our dogs off leash. Views are as beautiful. Usually a few people fishing and lots of other friendly dogs. If your dog likes to swim, he'll probably just ask you to leave him there and come back tomorrow...dock for jumping and loads of easy entry places.

Lake itself is quite lovely, and trail is convenient to Boulder and Longmont areas. Path is wide, smooth, and flat, appropriate for all ability levels and many uses. Very dog friendly - though almost felt like a dog park with so many present on a crowded Sunday afternoon.

Nice easy trail! Very dog friendly, I think I was the only one without a dog. Much better parking across the street.

Coot lake is a relaxing place to go for an easy walk. It seems like a nice place to fish or bring the dogs. Not much else for scenery but fall does bring some changing leaves. Heard lots of coyotes after dark so be mindful.

Great discovery of a very dog friendly Lake! Easy, graveled trail for the walk and numerous easy access points for the dog to jump in the water. We'll be making this a regular visit!

Such a beautiful, easy hike. This has been my relaxation spot for the past several years, and it is beyond beautiful at sunset. Gorgeous view of the Front Range, as well as Haystack Mountain.

A flat, well maintained gravel track that is good for running and open to dogs. Very short and not difficult at all, but a good place to jog or walk your dog in the shadow of the Rockies. Good birding in the back section, expect to see lots of red-wing blackbirds in the summer and possibly blue herons and other waterfowl.
