Great hike! Definitely muddy, snowy and icy in the low lying and shaded areas. The switchbacks just behind the bridge on the way to Gudy’s rest were particularly snowy, icy and slippery on the steep parts for about 200-300 meters. There was a fallen tree to cross just before the bridge and another just before you reach Gudy’s.

I was only able to make it to the bridge due to time constraints, but the snow is packed down hard. The trail is a solid sheet of ice in some parts (we started at 9 a.m.). Crampons are highly recommended. There is a tree that fell across the trail directly before the bridge.

It is spectacular at the top. A little bit strenuous at times, especially with all the fresh snow, but there is an easy-to-follow trail with hardly any steep areas the whole way through and up. The beautiful views are totally worth it.

Beautiful hike! Set out on 12/4 around 8am. One other car at the trailhead, but not one other person on the trail for the 3 hours it took us. Lots of snow and ice on the trail, but it was well-packed throughout. No microspikes on the way up, but we used them on the way down for good measure and to keep a normal pace. Overall an absolutely gorgeous hike- the river and surrounding plant life coated in snow was amazing, and the views at the top were truly breathtaking. The weather was perfect- a good 30 degrees or so the whole time. Highly recommended for an easy-moderate mid-length hike!!

Really fun scenic hike. The switchbacks at the end are very long so they are pretty easy. I did not think trail was that busy or very rocky. Overall the most challenging part is the distance.

Nice trail. Would’ve been better if less people at Gurdys.

Somewhat rocky path in places. Good mix of shade and sun. Some uphill terrain and narrow paths but nothing too strenuous before the bridge. We’re new to hiking, but found the 2.5 miles to bridge and back a perfect hike. Lots of great offshoot trails down to the river. LOTS of dogs off leash. Mostly friendly, but not all. One in the parking lot somehow made it off leash (while owner is away hiking or biking) and is literally trying to attack people as they come off the trail. HUGE dog lover, but people please... leave your aggressive dogs at HOME!!!!!!!!

Such an amazing hike! One of my new Colorado favorites! Parking lot was pretty full and the trail was very busy on our way down, but we started around 8:00AM and hardly passed anyone on the way up.

This is one of my favorite hikes. Took out of town guests - perfect for a beginning hike with an awesome view at the end. The first part to the bridge is easy, the switchbacks to the top were a little difficult but everyone made it. Lots of dogs and well trafficked.

Great hike! The trail is shaded and cool in the morning until you cross the bridge. The climb wasn’t that bad and definitely worth the view. I would come here again!

Very nice family and dog friendly trail. You start following the river, then start heading higher up doing switch backs until reaching the gudys rest at 4 miles up with a great view of everything.
