Backpacked this on September 21-22 (and section 6 in the days following). Not too much foot traffic till we got within 4 miles of Kenosha pass/hwy 285. Lots of old dried up bear poop so I'm sure there's plenty of bear activity here when it's warmer! Fairly mild elevation changes and a very well kept/well hiked trail. Plenty of water stops as well. The aspen grove on the downslope towards hwy 285 was magical, although I'd put the color change at only around 30% or so when we hit it. Also, I'm not sure if it was our timing or if this is always the case, but the water sources often had a lot of thirsty yellow jackets hanging around. They weren't as aggressive as those POS's can be but check your crevices before moving a body part.

Great views

Hiked this segment Saturday. Crossed a number of streams; and even the "intermittent streams " were flowing briskly. Quite a few meadows along the way, and panoramic views of South Park towards the end. The approach road had lots of washboard, so figure on doing 15-20 mph on those 11 miles.

we walked 23 miles through part of segment 4 and all of segment 5. the weather was great during the day, the ascents are all fairly mild until you summit Kenosha pass. those parts aren't steep of anything, but they're relentlessly uphill. depending into the aspens at the end of the hike was pretty. the vista point views are quite a sight. the whole hike was very beautiful. our guidebook kept saying there was very little water, but we passed a # of streams. lots of mosquitoes and it stormed around 6p

Wildflowers everywhere! A little bit of everything with forest, aspens, meadows and big views. A couple of downed trees blocking the trail easy to get around. Lots of evidence of bears, but didn’t see any. Camped at roughly 2.5 miles in after completing section 4, lots of water options.

Segment 5 is in great condition. Lots of water options for backpackers. Camped at mile 7.3 (Rock Creek). Saw moose, antelope and plenty of beautiful scenery!

Trail is dry and in great condition, easy to follow the whole way. One large downed tree toward the end, but nothing too difficult to get around. All the extra water this year is making things very green! Lots of cows around.

Hiked segment 4 & 5 over the Memorial Day started at the top of Kenosha pass. On segment 5 the trail was in great condition very little snow and some light mud had a great time only saw 5 people. 4 people were day hikers, and he last person was a backpacker. All of them were going the opposite direction of me.

Started at Kenosha Pass and hiked toward Long Gulch going out 3.5 miles and then back to the parking lot. The view at 3.5 miles is absolutely panoramic. A gorgeous day and peak color on the aspens. Beautiful views of Southpark. Love this segment of the trail.

I loved this segment of the CT. It was full of just right up and downs, beautiful terrain that was varied and interesting, it had good water and nice camping spots. It would be a perfect hike/backpacking trip to do with kids. And I can’t wait to hike it this fall when the aspen turn!

Aspens are at their peak and starting to drop their leaves. Walked from Highway 285 trailhead in 1.5 miles and back. Easy incline and amazing views. The trail is very busy with hikers, families, photographers, bikers and dogs.

My father-in-law and I hiked this today 3 miles from the trailhead and back. Pretty level hike with some great views of snow-capped mountains, wildflowers and aspen trees. Only saw a group of 4 & a guy riding a horse during our 4 hour hike. We plan on coming here again!

Tons of aspens, definitely coming back in the fall. No water on miles 9-14. Amazing panoramas, bring a good camera!
