This trail offers many rewards! The destination, Royal Arch, is a local favorite. Many, many stairs to the top for this geological wonder! Great views of the jagged, rugged, Flat Irons & the open valley of Boulder, CO. Highlights include wild flowers, rock formations, steep inclines, birds of prey, and an initial well-packed baked earth entry trail.

Challenging but rewarding hike! Hit the trail early to beat the heat and the people. Not too crowded when I got to the trailhead around 7:30am, but when I was coming down around 10 it was packed! The arch and view of Boulder is awesome. Definitely worth the sweat and quad burn on the way up!

Great trail that is 4 miles round trip from the Chautauqua ranger station (not 3!). Second half is fairly steep and you will have to salamander up and down some steep rocks about 1/4 mile from the arch, but it’s well worth it!

Great trail system, close to town with very accessible hikes. Trail was crowded but had a lot of shade and magnificent views of the Front Range. The route also gets rocky and steep in parts, but the Royal Arch is well worth seeing and the hike is very doable.

Favorite trail in the entire Chautauqua area. It’s a bit of a scramble for the last push to the top, but worth the view.

Love this trail! Great workout , relatively short and can be done in 2-3 hours depending on your stops and how quickly you’re moving. Beautiful views. Careful to pay attention to trail in areas, can easily take wrong trail.

The distance is completely wrong on AllTrails, I recorded 4 miles. A lot of rocks and stone stairs up to the arch, a definite ass kicker in such a short hike but well worth it. Took right at two hours.

Great views!!! Sentinel pass was my favorite, and this is about 2/3 of the way through to the summit of royal arch trail. Pretty rocky terrain, would definitely recommend boots, not sneakers. This was on the difficulty where I was wishing I had trekking poles on the way down, but it was certainly doable without. A wonderful challenge with rewarding views.

Royal arch is a beautiful spot to hike to, get ready for some steps to get there and might be busy at the top but the big structure is worth it.

Excellent hike. It’s a nice, moderate hike to the top with a good workout. The views at the arch are well worth the trip. Loved it.

Ice ice ice. Bring microspikes or don’t hike. I had to wait for ~10 people at the stream/stairs before the saddle because they weren’t prepared and had gone up a ways and couldn’t get down. It’s all slick ice from the thaw/freeze, so please come prepared. On the flip side, it was nice to have the summit all to myself!
