Would recommend hiking sticks. Park at the ice ring.

Worth the hike. When you enter the trail, going to the right will keep you shaded almost all the way to the top. In exchange, you have lots of steep switchbacks. The trail is obviously well used by Mountain Bikes. There are places that are quite narrow and letting someone by is a trick. The left side (return side if you went in the right side) is less steep, more of a steady climb. More in the sun, also. Enjoy!

Nice trail, just a bit of mud left and some snow on chapman's slopes. Otherwise it was a great family hike.

Great hike on Easter Sunday. Very little traffic and beautiful views of Durango and the surrounding river valley.

Short and sweet hike with great views of Durango and the Animas river! A great birds eye view hike to survey the area as someone visiting from out of town. We went to the right to start the loop with the steepest part and end on the gradual downhill. Parked just past the ice rinks
