Great morning hike! Steep and snowy towards the top on Thanksgiving weekend, yak tracks or hiking poles would be a good idea. Trailhead was a bit awkward as you have to go through a cattle gate to get in... there was a path through the grass to the left that distracted us initially. Go through the green cattle gate to start! I added some photos. Enjoy!

Only four stars for the amount of cow pies. Great views, nice challenging incline but still a casual hike.

Took about an hour and a half to get to the top and a little over an hour to come back down. Beautiful views! Highly recommended.

love the major colors from the start, the leaves are falling and it's hard to just watch the trail. cows are coming down now so watch for the patties. a lot of fresh dead fall trees in the trail now. Great time enjoy.

Incredible views at the top! I loved this hike. Did it with my husband and dog on Labor Day. We started around 11:30 AM, so it got fairly hot. The trail is partially shaded. It is very easy to follow. Significant elevation gain most of the way up. Lots and lots of horse poop was really the only negative. The directions take you to a gas station/country store. There is a corral to the left that you can park near, and the hike starts just past the corral. There is only one easy river crossing near the start (log across plus a rope to hold onto). No other good water sources for dogs after that. Most of the dogs we met were off-leash. We ended up with about 5.2 miles total with some hiking around the top. Plenty of shady areas near the top to rest and have lunch.

Great hike! Exactly 2 miles to the fork just past the cabin. Go right to Castle Rock. Next .5 miles is hard & steep. Worth the effort. The views were AMAZING! Horse trail with plenty of poop tho.
