love the major colors from the start, the leaves are falling and it's hard to just watch the trail. cows are coming down now so watch for the patties. a lot of fresh dead fall trees in the trail now. Great time enjoy.

Incredible views at the top! I loved this hike. Did it with my husband and dog on Labor Day. We started around 11:30 AM, so it got fairly hot. The trail is partially shaded. It is very easy to follow. Significant elevation gain most of the way up. Lots and lots of horse poop was really the only negative. The directions take you to a gas station/country store. There is a corral to the left that you can park near, and the hike starts just past the corral. There is only one easy river crossing near the start (log across plus a rope to hold onto). No other good water sources for dogs after that. Most of the dogs we met were off-leash. We ended up with about 5.2 miles total with some hiking around the top. Plenty of shady areas near the top to rest and have lunch.

Great hike! Exactly 2 miles to the fork just past the cabin. Go right to Castle Rock. Next .5 miles is hard & steep. Worth the effort. The views were AMAZING! Horse trail with plenty of poop tho.

A few hours round trip. After the cabin the trail splits. Go to the right.

I've lost track on how many times I've hiked this trail. The view at the top is worth those last few hundred feet. Special place

Parking lot on the left side of Needles Country Store. Had to open gate at trailhead. Great hike all uphill for 2.7 miles (strenuous), then all downhill on the way back. Lots of switchbacks mostly under trees (Aspen & pine), so it is nice and cool. There were lots of wildflowers in a meadow, then the hardest climb for the last mile. Awesome views at the top - Heavenly!! If you keep going past Castle Rock for another 1/2 mile you get a good look at the steep cliff you just climbed.
