Great day hike - easy trail - lots of people around-

This hike starts in Allenspark, not the main Wild Basin Trailhead. This cuts way down on number of people on the trail. We completed this on 4th of July and saw maybe 10 people the whole time. At the cascades, it's a different story as that's where you meet up with the busy main trail. Stunning views as you are hiking to the cascades. No snow on the trail. Perfect day!

Really enjoyed this trail. It has some spectacular views leading to the cascades. There is also plenty of shade. After a bit of peaceful solidarity, quite a few families arrived from the Wild Basin Trailhead. Perhaps, it would be best to arrive early to avoid the crowds. Also, there is no longer a parking lot at the Allenspark Trailhead, as it is now posted as Private Property. There is room for 3-4 cars near the trailhead on the street.

Did the hike today and was extremely nice. There is currently no snow on the ground and only just a few wet areas due to various streams. I would rate the hike as easy, as there was no hard or strenuous uphills but just a slow climb. The falls are amazing and well worth the trip!

Did this hike on June 23...while it was snowing! Trail is very wet, so be prepared. My husband did the trail in tennis shoes and his feet were a little wet towards the end. Hiking boots were needed due to the water pouring down the trail in places. All the snowmelt has the falls in full effect and the River is raging! Amazing hike and wonderful views!

Excellent trail, pretty smooth!

Great hike. No problems w/snow on June 13th. Yes, there was some, but not a lot to stop us moving forward. LOTS of moose droppings on the trail down to Calypso Cascades (which was awesome). Beautiful scenery and beautiful dead trees (really).

Great trail but scary for those of us who don't normally hike in the snow. Snow covered the trail past the bridge but we "crawled" over it to the cascades. Long hike but challenging. Good times.

Forestry! Due to snow we could not go past the bridge. Beautiful views of Longs Peak. Will definitely explore this summer. Shady.

A very beautiful trail but even today it would have been easier to navigate the significant snow on the trail with microspikes.

We tried snowshoeing this trail, but after the first 1.8 mi to the intersection for finch lake/wild basin, we attempted to follow the calypso trail, but the blowing snow made the trail a little difficult top maneuver and we were a bit worried we'd twist an ankle or knee trying to follow a trail someone had made (it was pretty steep and snowshoes on uneven slopes isn't much fun) so we made it to a pretty area that opened up to a view, took some pictures and turned around. Went about 4/4.5 miles. Would definetly love to go back and do finch lake or when the snow melts try calypso again.

Did some snowshoeing today(2/17/19), great conditions for it! We got to the trail and started about 8:45 am, snow was still fresh. Parking lot wasn’t too crowded and didn’t really see too many others until we were heading back. Only a few spots uphill, relatively even terrain with nice views. Did Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades, a short part of Ouzel falls to the overlook, which was a good point to turn around.

A beautiful peaceful day on the trail. The trail was snow packed so no need for snowshoes even after freshly fallen snow 2 days prior. Parking is a challenge since the lot has not been plowed due to the furlough :0(. Could not make it to calypso cascades since the trail disappeared shortly after the “Y”. Therefore backtracked and went to Finch Lake instead. I was the only soul on the trail today. Of course it is Monday. Beautiful views of Mt Meeker and Longs about half way up. Sweet little creek crossing that had amazing ice crystals

7/1/18: What a beautiful trail! Much of the hike is through pine forests with packed dirt/rock, like many RMNP trails. Amazing views of Long's peak and nearby peaks. The falls is gorgeous. We went another 0.9 miles to Ouzel falls, which was just as nice. For a Sunday, this trail had only light-moderate traffic; crowded right at the end near the falls, where the Wild Basin trail connects. Pretty wildflowers. A great way to get into RMNP for free and (at least in the beginning) avoid the typical tourist traffic.

Absolutely gorgeous views the whole way! My husband and I hiked this a few weeks ago in early June and it was so nice! I was dealing with a rare case of altitude sickness so we didn’t end up going all the way to Ouzel Falls which I was sad about but the rest of the hike was so beautiful we couldn’t complain. We will return and acclimate better next time before doing this hike and make it to the Falls!

Went down finch lake trail head about 5 miles from the parking iPhone maps take you to from this app. It was beautiful! Not a lot of people or parking ! Arrived and had no parking left had to park on the side of the road. However was great hike wind/trees kept us cool for a 90+ degree day. Beautiful drive from Denver!

Nice woodland walk. I didn’t think it was too hard. Got to the beginning of Calypso Trail and needed snow shoes. The skiers looked like they had a great day.

Great hike. Beautiful cascades at the end. This was on the easy side of a moderate hike.

A great trail; wether you're a beginner or an experienced hiker. You'll experience a variety of terrain along the way to the Calypso Cascades. Definitely a beautiful and calming experience. But don't stop there! Go the extra 0.9 miles to Ouzel Falls; you won't be disappointed! And be sure to take the trail up to the main falls; if you're extra adventurous, you can climb right up to the base of the main waterfall. Enjoy

Passed this while going to Ouzel Falls. This was a beautiful place to see how water creates it's own path. With little experience took us a little while to get there, but worth our time.

Beautiful trail! Limited parking available. The trail starts with a good jaunt uphill to get the heart going and becomes increasingly beautiful as you approach the cascades.

Beautiful trail, well marked with scenes galore. Advise at least 1 hiking pole for anyone with balance issues to maneuver around natural steps. Very quiet trail with lots of options to connect to other trails.

The directions under the "Getting There" tab are to the Wild Basin TH. The title and the track shown on the map are from the Allenspark TH, which is the trail we took. Highway 7 to Allenspark, turn right/north just before the post office onto County Road 90, left on S Skinner Rd, right on Meadow Mountain Dr to the well-signed TH with very limited parking. A trail crew was repairing the damaged section of the trail when we went by. The rest of the trail is in great shape. We are slow, old fogeys and hiked to Calypso Cascades in less than two hours. We did not continue to Ouzel Falls due to threatening weather. The trail from Wild Basin TH is shorter with substantially less elevation gain, but I have not hiked it. The trail from Wild Bain TH is also more heavily used. The trail from Allenspark is closed to horses until the repairs are completed.

Beautiful! Whew, a hike to get there since we started late and so had an extra 1.5 miles to hike since the parking lots were full. Who knew? Still the hike was worth it with rushing water all the way.
