This is a beautiful trail, not heavily trafficked, with tons of wildlife. The only downside, as noted by a previous reviewer, was the mud. After about 1.6 miles in, even with walking on the grass, we were squelching almost to our ankles.
This is a nice trail, but there is a fairly long section of muddy, marshy, wet travel. Starting around mile 1.9. We ended up walking over manzanita as best we could snd finally give in to muddy, caked over the top of the the boots hiking. On the way back there is a significant stream we washed off the best we could. We did see two moose, one deer, and a few elk. The deer was on the path ahead of us for 5 minutes and the gave way to the woods. We also had a pretty torrential thunder storm that had a sleet mix. It lasted about ten minutes, then sunshine.
very moderate to easy trail, trail very near creek. It was dry when we hiked it on 7-10-20, only one small mud spot that is easy to navigate across on some downed trees. Lulu village was our destination, but once there we decided to go on up to the grand ditch, which was another 1000’ in elevation but it was worth it. It’s just a service road at the top but worth the views. The whole trip took us about 7hours at a very leisurely pace, resting often, 30 minute nap at the top, 13.2 miles there and back to the colo. trail head. Start early, by 6:30-7am at the latest. Its hot and dusty by 1pm, that’s a good time to quit!
We hiked this trail on 9/13/19. Lots of little streams, easy to cross and fun to see the water flowing down! Not a difficult trail at all. Just happened upon it because parking was very full on this day. Definitely not one of the most popular hikes, but still beautiful nonetheless!
Loved this trail, just wish it was drier. Very few people. Gorgeous views. Lots of streams. We had to turn around before the end because it was so wet and the trail got a bit lost. Might be better at the end of the season when the run off is gone. Would rate it moderate difficulty with the mud.
Began the hike at the Colorado River Trailhead. The trail is mainly wooded, but has lovely views once you get to Little Yellowstone Canyon. You wouldn't think the Colorado River begins at La Poudre Pass, but it does. It is 15 miles round trip with beautiful flowers, amazing fungi, and many lodge pole pine.
