HikingGreat!

Hiked this on 11/21/20. Arrived at 10:30am and there were plenty of parking spots but when I left at 1:00pm only one or two were still open. Trail is in great condition, some small patches of ice but no traction needed. Windy peak lived up to its name - it was very windy up there today!

Steep trail but a good mix of steep incline and flatter trail. There were a couple of intersections with other trails where we got mixed up - would recommend downloading the trail map. The view at windy peak was great. The main downside of this trail was being so close to hunting ground. We could hear gunshots pretty close to the trail which was a bit scary and uncomfortable. Hiked on 11/7 - trail conditions were great, no snow or mud. Got to the trailhead parking lot at 10:15am and there were still parking spots. Hike took about 4 hours (2 up and 2 down because we got lost on the way down).

Easy to follow trail. Definitely a steeper trail compared to others in GGC, but it was a good workout and beautiful views at the end. Saw a couple hunters on my way up at 7:30am and a lot of hikers on my way down.

*Note to all: There is a 9$ parking day fee for the state park which includes this trailhead parking lot. Starting from the trailhead we hiked toward burro trail and went counter clockwise. Upon the intersection of the burrow trail and the mountain lion trail, the signs are confusing unless you have the maps downloaded. Take a left after you walk a little bit on the service road and you will come to a junction. For the burro trail, take a left at the split instead of following the signs which tell you to go right. If you go right you will be on the mountain lion trail which adds an extra 1.5-2 miles. Aside from getting turned around, the trail was beautiful in sections which followed a stream and massive rock formations. Bit of sun in some areas but overall a pretty shaded and easy hike.

I prefer the Mountain Lion Trail in this area, as it has more varied terrain, but it's a beautiful time of year in the park on any trail.

The trail is relatively easy. There are no boulders or scrambling or stairs. We came on a busy day and had to park at the visitor center which added 2 1/2 miles to our hike. Luckily someone gave us a ride back at the end. No good views because of the smog. But certainly very windy up top. Got there at 10:15 and took 2 1/2 hours to go up and down. Not my favorite trail.

This was a really pretty trail but it doesn’t seem very well marked. My friend and I somehow got off trail and walked an extra 2 miles. Oops! Should’ve downloaded the trail map.. also I thought there was going to be a lake but that must’ve been on the part of the trail we missed.

As with a previous review...this trail is hard sue to sections of the trail that are challenging. Nice variations of terrain. The back side is much less shaded than the front side of lollipop. Be sure to stop at the parking station to get your Daily Pass! We totally missed it on the way in...it is self service. Windy Peak was amazing. The views of other mountain peaks is spectacular! Oh! And my calves are sore!

The view at Windy Peak is worth the effort. And you’ll find beautiful schist along the path, gleaming in the sunshine. A few patches of snow remained on the ground, but perfect weather today (glad I brought lots of water).

A really nice option near Denver — consistently challenging but not as hard as some other “hard” hikes. Lots of variation, as others have said, and pretty solid views at the top. Windy Peak lives up to its breezy name. We also spotted a bear in an area that appeared to be a dried up creek - so make some noise / be sure not to creep up on them :)

Excellent hike with nice variation. Some tough stretches along the way for sure, but nothing crazy. It’s worth it for the views at Windy Peak. Arrived at the trail at 8 am, not crowded at all. Plenty of shade. I’m glad we waited a few weeks and let the air quality improve for better views.

Great hike with lots of different terrain! Beautiful scenery and not heavily trafficked. Hike late in the day for good shade coverage and amazing pre-sunset views from the peak!

Can’t say enough about it. Close to civilization but seems worlds away. Nice challenge with a few steep sections but not too hard given middling distance and elevation. Great views from the top of Windy Peak if not so smoky. Very uncrowded and most people wore masks. My recording says 6.5 miles but actually 6.6 or 6.7. Phone died right before finish. Some of the best signage I’ve ever seen on trails. Only mildly confusing part — yes, go on the service road a little in the direction where signs don’t tell you to stay out.

Just a reminder that is rated difficult due to elevation gain. That and the smoke and heat this summer really do make this challenging. If you are new to hiking, do not underestimate your need for hydration. A small water bottle on a 7 mile hike is not enough. If you have not hiked at all this summer, I would find another trail in the this beautiful park - all are great.

Beautiful trail and great workout!!! Windy peak had great views and wasnt too windy at 9am. Ended up hiking along deer creek on the way back from windy peak and it was so pretty with the creek and wildflowers, so glad I did that! Ended up being 14 miles after taking the long loop back on mountain lion trail. But I loved it! Worth the $9 I paid for parking :) Perfect day for hiking!

Took the Burro to Windy Peak and Mountain Lion down not thinking about getting back to my car lol. So I ended up doing almost all of both trails. TONS of really fun bouldering all over the place! Also lots of trad climbing routes, probably some good top-roping too. Windy peak was ok, definitely not the most rewarding peak in the area, but still a fun day trip.

Started at 6am and a few cars were already in the lot. Didn’t pass anyone on the way up but many on the way down. About half had masks; some were cautious of distancing and others weren’t. Trail has good shade on and off with beautiful vistas and flowers right now.
