Bluff Lake has a 1-mile Lake Loop with an additional ½-mile Sand Creek Loop. The 123-acre wildlife park is located within Denver, Colorado city limits. It is mostly flat, with both stairs and an accessible entry ramp. Wildlife abounds and varied ecosystems offer year-round activity options. Open, free to the public, from sunrise to sunset, every day. Bluff Lake provides peaceful solace within the confines of the city. The Denver Post noted that the view from the top of the Bluff is one of the better views of the Denver skyline and the Front Range. Once below the bluff, there is peaceful serenity and plenty of wildlife. Recent renovations have resulted in a larger lake and wetland area. There are several nature viewing stations, including a boardwalk over the lake. The focus is peaceful harmony between nature and humanity. Pets, bicycles and motorized vehicles are not allowed. There is ample, paved parking. Picnic tables are available at the top of the bluff. Portable-toilets only until renovations are complete. (See their web site for additional evening and planned activities and events.) Connections to the longer Sand Creek Trail are at the east and west ends of the property. (Sand Creek bicyclist and dog-walkers are given a bypass trail around the outside of the property.) Contact for additional information.

Easy walk with lots of birds and prairie dog sightings.

Nice little stroll for a city trail, lots of wildlife.

Was a really nice trail to take my kids on, however the giant stairs weren’t so fun with a stroller. Otherwise this small lake was beautiful

Nice short trail. Lots of bunnies.

was a good walk but not stroller accessible like the description said

Wonderful little city trail that feels like a little prairie dog and rabbit wonderland! There is a sweet lake and it was very quiet as well. Fabulous little running path in the city. Not a destination trail but if you are near it and need a leg stretch - it’s perfect!

Beautiful location! A hidden gem, for sure. My kids loved running around. A very cool feature is the different habitats all in one park.

This is a beautiful hike around a lake with lots of wildlife in the area (ie rabbits, waterfowl). The scenery is beautiful and it is easy to forget that you are in Denver. Well worth a stop.

Beautiful quick run or walk for your lunch hour if you work close. Only took me an hour to get there, walk the route and get back to work

Good for a jog as well as guaranteeing seeing animals. The abundance of wildlife makes the 1 mile track interesting

It was pretty disappointed day to begin with.. I was planning on going to a 6 mile hike but something came up and I had to change my plan. Then I still wanted to enjoy the nice 65 degree weather, so looked up near by trail and came to this one. It was short trail, so I didn't want to run but to walk and enjoy the sound of birds and water. Very nice and quiet trail. Glad I checked this one off from my list with a satisfaction.

Nice day to take a walk with the kids.

Trail was open and a pleasant walk. Surrounded by the expanding city but lots of prairie dogs, rabbits, geese, ducks, kingfishers, and many other kinds of birds. Good stroll for little kids.

No climbing here, its mostly flat except for a decent from the parking area where you can either take stairs or a gradual decline ramp down. There are nice views of the wetlands but when we visited, maybe a 1/4 of the loop was closed. Most of the loop is unshaded and you can see houses nearby. A little unsettling fact is it appears to be next to a jail. You can see some of the fence while on the trail. Maybe that's why it felt abandoned. There were also tons of traps on the hillside for meerkats so that ruined some of the nature feel to it. We sat and watched the little guys hoping they would stay away from the traps. I understand they're a pest and all but it just seemed strange to be trapping them in a park? Overall, this spot isn't ideal if you want to get some quality nature time.

A nice small park. A good walk if you live near by. The river has very small waterfalls that flow into a lake that us populated with natural tall grasses.

light easy today

Not much to see...small creek and pond but the rest of the trail is surrounded by buildings. Easy hike.

Sweet little loop. Nice to see the wildlife.

under construction but still a nice getaway area from the city.

It's definitely an "in the city" trail. On higher elevations, when you start/end, you can see all of Stapleton and some peaks coming up from behind the city skyline. It's a nice getaway right in the middle of the city. There's a small wetland area (which does attract bugs) but it's nature!

Local spot for a late afternoon run. Great sunsets, a little buggy. Some Strava segments around the lake. Great to have some neature so close to the 'burbs. The parking area off of M.L.K. Jr Blvd closes at sunset. As of August 2016, some construction near Havana St. closed the main 1 mi. loop around the lake.

Bugs galore.

Awesome hike with 16 month old in backpack. Great loop, not too crowded especially for a Sunday. Great short jig or kid friendly hike for all ages. Graded trail. Nice parking lot. Bathrooms at trailhead and porta-potty half way.
