Blue Sky Trail is a 15.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Loveland, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is best used from April until October.
Finally got out on this trail after living in FC for two summers! Non-technical, Flowy trail. 99% is sand over hard pack. Rode out 5 1/2 miles to the start of the more technical steps with wooden guard rails. On a Tuesday morning ride saw three other cyclists and three trail runners plus a rattlesnake with a rattle that didn’t work.
Completed this trail today with my teen daughter. We are both beginner bikers in fairly good shape. I would consider this a beginner/intermediate trail. Not too difficult, but with a few technical sections to challenge you (we ended up walking the bikes over a couple sections). Single track for most of the trail. No shade, so go early. We are avid hikers and I would skip hiking this one and leave it to the bikers. There are many better hiking options in the area. The trail is heavily used by bikers and is dusty. We had a fantastic time biking it though. Will definitely go back when the weather cools down a little. Enjoy!
We accidentally took Indian summer. Instead of staying on Blu sky. Watch when it comes together. Added another 2.1 miles. Wasn’t too bad.
First, for dog owners, this is NOT an off-leash trail. All Trails needs to update their profile. I chose this trail today beliving it was an off leash trail. Second, this is a mountain bike trail. Yes, runners and hikers use it, but given the amount of damage to the trail by bikes, it is suited more for bikers than hikers. I'm not against mountain biking, but I like to avoid trails were there is heavy bike use. Not so much because of the bikers themselves, but because of the rough, rutted, uneven surface the bikes create in the trail. The trail condiiton was so bad today, it was eaiser to walk on the ice than the hard uneven frozen mud! I took the dogs in 1 mile and then turned around. Just wasn't enjoyable for me. I'm sure others love this trail and am sure it is a good one for some, but for this hiker, it didn't hold any special appeal.
It's not a BAD trail, it's just... Not great either. It may be because I prefer hiking through an area with a lot of trees, but I felt like the scenery was boring. If you like looking at dry bushes and rocks then you'd love this
