8/13/19: Great short hike! My husband wasn’t feeling well so it was the perfect shorter hike for the day. The lake was nice and we saw a little wildlife. It was nice not being so crowded like everywhere else in the park. Like others said, the first stretch in doesn’t have much shade, we started the hike around 5:30 and had no problem with it being too hot.

Lots of horse poop on trail, great view of mountains, saw a moose!!

Went to Bierstadt Lake, then down to Bear Lake and around before stopping. There was light rain, but definitely didn’t ruin the hike.

Love this trail! The start of the trail is an incline with several switchbacks but as you climb you are awarded with a gorgeous view of the valley below. You then go through the woods until you reach the lake. The lake is beautiful and we took a long break enjoying the mallards and chipmunks who came to investigate us. Very relaxing and nice hike. Definitely start in the morning, because showers usually develop in the afternoon. Got some cool pictures of the trail winding through the woods, the lake and the mountains with the valley below on the switchbacks!

It’s a decent moderate trail with an incline of switchbacks on the front end — start early or you’ll be in the sun almost the whole way up. The lake, itself, is nice, but I can’t say that it compares all that well to the other lakes like Dream Lake, et. al. It’s a good hike to get your legs into the game, though, and if you’re back country camping like us, it was a nice pit-stop on the way to the Mills Creek camp sites. I would recommend it because apparently a lot of wildlife uses the lake. Seeing a moose, deer, etc., would be cool up there — it didn’t happen for us, but maybe for you. Plus, it’s the RMNP...everything is beautiful, postcard worthy.

Pretty moderate trail, the best part was seeing a family of moose at the lake, two parents and a baby.

Beautiful views throughout the hike and an amazing view of mountains from the top. You can always hike to Bear Lake and take the shuttle back to your car if you dont want to go back the way you came.

Beautiful, first trail I did when I moved to Colorado and went to RMNP. Doesn’t disappoint

It's not the most epic views in RMNP but it does have less traffic, which makes up for it. You get a nice bit of shade at the top to cool down after the early climb. Would have rated this higher, but the amount of horse poop you have to navigate really takes away from the enjoyment. Pets are not allowed in RMNP, the least they could do is make people clear their horse droppings off the trails in some fashion. Parking was full so we walked from the sprague lake parking area.

Beautiful scenery in the wintertime! Pretty easy hike with a nice lake and gorgeous snow-covered trees (I did this hike in January).

Hit the trail early if going in July because the first part is quite exposed. The lake at the top is just stellar.

I did this trail early in the morning hoping to see wildlife and I wasn’t disappointed! I saw a family of ducks and a moose at the lake. This trail is not as scenic as some of the others like Loch Lake but the lake is beautiful and it is much less crowded.

We did this hike on 7/15. Great short hike to get the heart pumping with beautiful views around the lake.

Loved this trail. The switchbacks are clearly marked and the trail is well developed. As always in the Rockies, the weather changes quickly though - started in full sun and got hit with hail and a thunderstorm on the far side of the lake! Well worth it though!

Went 6/19 and loved every second of Estes Park and loved the trail. It was an amazing hike to kick off our new lives in Colorado.

7/9/19 My first time in Rocky Mountain National Park. Compared to how much traffic was in the park, this felt like a gem of a hike. Not very crowded, and beautiful views from start to finish. Even got to watch a moose in the water. Fairly easy hike, take time to enjoy the views on the switchbacks. Was able to find parking at TH, but definitely limited on number of spaces.

Hiked this trail on 7/4. We arrived around 6:30. There were still a few parking spaces left. This is a great trail and it is very lightly hiked. Get there early and take your time. There are so many different type of wild flowers to see on the switchbacks while traversing up the trail. We saw a red headed woodpecker and a dear crossed the trail right in front of us. The lake itself is nice but not as stunning as other nearby lakes. The star of this hike is the trail so once again take your time, get there early and enjoy.

Absolutely beautiful. But do it in the morning because you are walking steep exposed switchbacks on the way up. It got hot fast.

Quick out and back, step work initial but easy after that. Lake at top good for kayaking and fishing

Hiked on 6/24 starting at 6:30. Parking lot at Bear Lake was still pretty empty, but full by the time we returned a few hours later. So always start early if you can! Followed suggestions to go from Bear Lake TH and end at Bierstadt TH. Saved us from going up the exposed switchbacks. Beautiful lake and beautiful hike! Gradual and small elevation increase on the way there so great for kids and/or those adjusting to the altitude. Highly recommend for beginners and lake lovers.

Hugely underrated! We almost skipped this hike and were so glad we didn't. Beautiful mountain views on the hike up, with lots of switchbacks on the mountainside. Plenty of wildflowers in late June and the mountainside is covered in aspens and fragrant shrubbrush. All uphill on the way up, but very manageable. Then, at the top, the large lake is completely surrounded by pines with snowy mountain peaks visible in the distance. Very peaceful and a true feeling of isolation. Highly recommend. There are only 8 or so parking spots at TH, so plan to use shuttle or hike during off-peak times. Neither trail nor TH was very crowded late afternoon.

We hiked on 6/22 and followed this exact path. We went up around 8am while it was still cold, so it was a surprisingly pleasant hike up the switchbacks. The loop around the lake was very muddy and the snow on the trees was melting and dripping on us, so prepare for that if you go within the next few days. The views at the lake were STUNNING! And the walk down the switchbacks provided gorgeous views and a wealth of wildflowers!

We started from Bear Lake TH per the Just Ahead app. recommendation. Trail was muddy., but not too bad. Made it to Bierstadt Lake. What a view!!! We saw a moose!. Opted to take the Biersted TH trail back down and shuttle to our car. A perfect solution. Amazing views coming down and as an added bonus avoided the switchbacks in the sun going up!!!
