I saw horses, birds, critters, and loved it. This trail was light, breezy, and a great loop. Wore sneakers and y’all socks, can be muddy patches if it was raining. Not a lot of shade, would wear a hat.

Beautiful park with lakes, off-road trails, and paved paths. Lovely breeze on a muggy spring day. A lot of gnats and midges when we came. Great for dogs but beware of the horses!

Great walk in town. The lake is beautiful with cormorants and a great blue heron nesting on it. There are lots of side trail and little avenues to meander off onto. Fairly crowded, even on a weekday morning, but most are wearing masks and being respectful. Couldn't quite ever get away from the sound of cars, but the birdsong was definitely louder. This will definitely be a frequent walk for the babe and I.

Love this park! This is my first time here and I will definitely be back. A good combo of sunny and shady, numerous offshoot trails to choose from. My favorite part is the area near the water. So much beautiful birdsong! There was also a pond with turtles sunning themselves. The only downside was that it was rather buggy today with swarms of gnats along parts of the trail. Other than that, it was a lovely experience!

Walked the paved and dirt trails with the dog. Enjoyed the birds, learned some history with the old preserved buildings and loved the views. Great easy walk for some sun and plenty of open space for distancing.

My appreciation of this run improved with each passing minute due to its diversity. It is especially interesting on the first visit and consider being willing to pause to enjoy the scenery and history at the park. You can make the run routine if you live in Lakewood. The park has distinct districts and the horseshoe-shaped route traverses each one. From the parking lot take the “on-ramp” to “Kountze Lake” traversing wooden boardwalks along the lake shore. After rounding the lake the run passes by the “heritage town” district, an assemblage of historic buildings and farm machinery. The next section is “the gulch” where you follow a stream course all the way to the Southwest corner of the park. Climbing up from the gulch you will find “Kountze woods”, an area of small conifers and a small pond” the Northeast corner of the park is “the lawn” a large open space for rest or play, and finally pass through “scholar’s campus” behind the library. You’ll loop back to the “off-ramp” back to the parking lot and the end of the adventure.

If you can catch a sunset here, the reflections and geese flying in are awesome! I’ve heard small dogs should watch for coyotes at night. Horses do come through some of the trails too. Great park!

One of my favs. Easy to walk around the pond, can branch off of trail to sidewalks for more distance. I'm not a birdwatcher, but see many who are. Best during week, busy on weekends. Easy to park at library. 2x around is slightly under 2 miles.

Level trail, relatively heavily used especially on weekends by dog-walkers, bird watchers, joggers, Pokemon folks. Still, a nice easy suburban walk. Occasional interesting shore birds and song birds spotted here.

Okay. The Lakewood heritage center/sites are the best part of this park, in my opinion.

Nice walk through the park on the marked trail. The weather was nice but the mud is coming out. Lots of standing water but not a lot running for the dog.
