Arrived at 8am on a Saturday and the lot was full; had to wait for a spot (10 or so minutes). We ended up having to come down shorthorn from maverick as the other connection was mountain bike only. Speaking of, there were a lot of mountain bikers. There were areas of shade, but mostly exposed.

Great views, but incredibly windy! I definitely recommend ear muffs, beanies, or whatever else to protect your ears. Besides that, great views and a nice variety of trail terrain. No ice or snow patches at all.

Went yesterday. The first couple miles in, and the same last couple out were incredibly crowded. The trail conditions make it difficult to social distance. It was a great hike though with wonderful views almost the whole way.

Started out in late afternoon and pretty much had the whole trail to ourselves, except for about a dozen mountain bikers. Northside was shaded, a little windy and icy in some patches, no spikes were needed. Southside of loop was dry. Took us under 3 hours to complete.

Good marked trail system, mostly single track, lots of sections of loose rocks. Hot and sunny, even getting on the trail at 9am. Will definitely come do this again without the dog. Lots of bikes and other hikers, and only about 25% shade oh the route we took. Even bringing a gallon of water for the dog, he was happy to be off the trail! Part of this route is not open to hikers so it ended up being just exactly 8 miles by my watch. (Forgot to start recording in the beginning.)

My hike began at 12:45 and the parking lot had plenty of vacancies. The hike begins as a walk through some woods then a steady incline in the sun for the next 2+ miles until experiencing a more shaded trek amongst the ponderosa pines. It leveled off just before the Maverick trail begin. I only saw one other hiker on the way up. The Maverick trail isn’t very wide but much easier because you’re rarely traveling up and much of the terrain is in the shade. The Longhorn and Shorthorn trails have a few inclines but for the most part, you’re working your way down. I saw a few bikers on this section of the loop. Overall, it was a great hike that took me 3 hours to complete.

Spring-like hiking conditions with everything from mud, to ice, to packed snow and dry dirt. Pretty views and enough of a challenge to make it with it. I’ll probably hike here again.

Completed on 1/27/2019. Used spikes and it helped me a lot. View is ok- Summer hike would be bit boring since not much excitements around here but enjoyed the trails with snow.
