Not too difficult. Finished in under four hours while carrying my 4-month old to the peak and back. Beautiful views at the top! Fun trail!

Nearly all of the elevation gain occurred in the last 1 mile of trail, more like rock scrambling than hiking. Views were beautiful and the flowers along the trail were great too, just not a fan of the actual trail.

Difficult as advertised but excellent hike! Will need poles on the descent due to loose rock. The only negative is the trail has been heavily used & eroded so that there are exposed tree roots with 6-10" of space underneath the bottom of the root and the trail. Use caution. Wish I'd known the restrooms at NCAR were open and available on a Sunday.

Great workout

Wow, that was a demanding trail, but well worth every step and drop of sweat at the end. The view was spectacular!

Great steep hike. It’s gnat a day to forget bug spray! The summit is infested with clouds of gnats. Luckily they weren’t biting, but it was no environment for a peaceful summit snack to take in the views. We hiked down a bit to snack while looking at the majestic Rockies.

Fantastic hike - very strenuous, concur this should be rated "hard." AllTrails app + GPS worked perfectly but note that from NCAR, you follow Mesa Trail to Fern Canyon Trail up to Bear Peak (I never saw a sign for Bear Peak). Fern Canyon is where this starts getting difficult and then it's a haul all the way to the top. Top is windy and dicey with somewhat slick boulders but the view is 360 and amazing.

If you want a strenuous workout, this is the hike! This really should be rated as HARD. There are good portions that are as steep as the manitou incline. Beautiful views, shady trees, and if you take the back loop back to the trailhead, you’ll have a really nice gradual descent with a few more added miles. A must-do but not for the faint of heart.

Trail was relatively clean, but had patches of snow/ice. Have to scramble on rock ledges to reach summit. Great views.

This hike is no joke. The elevation gain is intense. Having hiking poles did help. The scrambling and bouldering at the top had me a bit scared. The views at the top are amazing. As hard or harder than some 14ers I’ve done.

Being new to the area, I try and take advantage of every warm and sunny day possible! We started the hike around 11am and did not end up leaving the mountain until about 9pm.. Not because we got lost but because the weather was nearly perfect! Seriously, T-shirt weather at 8pm at night really makes for an interesting experience up on the mountain.. I will definitely be revisiting this hike in the future!! Extremely rewarding hike!!
