Incredibly fun hike. It is strenuous but if you take your time it’s not bad. We took fern canyon and went down a different trail behind the peak. It was a beautiful day but started getting hot around 9-10. Lots of people at the summit.

steep and hot but very rewarding as always, we started at around 7 AM Sunday and the parking lot was somewhere between a quarter and a third full. Only passed a few others on the way up, but coming back the last mile and a half was busy enough that social distancing was essentially impossible. leaving around 10:30 AM the parking lot was full. no Rattlers although we did see a few warning signs along the trail.

We had a great time on this trail last weekend! Definitely appropriately rated ‘hard’. We took fern canyon trail up to the peak, trail conditions were great, it’s a stair stepper for sure but only the very top is a scramble. It got busy toward the top even with a 7am start from NCAR so start at sunrise if you want minimal people. The peak was too crowded to even stop for more than one photo which was disappointing. We then took Bear West Ridge trail to descend but not before missing it and going toward South Boulder peak for a touch. Make sure to note it’s a switchback turn maybe 20 feet below the summit to Bear West Ridge trail. The remaining descent of the west ridge and Bear canyon trail were much less crowded and trails well maintained. Everything had variable exposure and canopy cover which was a good temperature regulator. This is a great loop if you’d like a challenging and significant day in the foothills.

This hike was definitely challenging and we clocked it at around 6.5 miles round trip on this trail! A lot of people this morning at 7:15ish so if you want to beat the crowd on a Saturday, I’d suggest getting there even earlier! A few parts you had to physically climb but the views were well worth it! The last .4 miles up to the summit were the most challenging in my opinion

Has a lot of rattle snake signs but we didn’t see any snakes. NCAR has a great view and is a good place to hike. Bear creek is not strenuous but a geat way to enter the boulder valley mountain trails. My 9 year old said: the bear peak trail goes a long way. Down up down up. At the first up there is a water tank with graffiti. Great views.

I love this trail but not during a pandemic. Much of it is narrow and 70% of the many people we passed were not wearing masks.

Perfect conditions today. Went early to beat the crowds on the way up but ran into a lot on the way down. Social distancing/mask-wearing was pretty hit or miss by group, though

Amazing hike! Definitely on the harder side and little signage but 100% worth it for the view.

Still gorgeous and butt-kicking. Fern canyon has large patches of ice and snow near the summit- managed without traction, though poles definitely help. If you're looking for a drier route, try Shadow Canyon to the south- completely snow-free. Happy trails!

After the saddle, hike becomes snowy, recommend crampons, but can do it with running shoes. View at the top is surreal, 365 degree views.
