Convenient to Idaho Springs, limited views This loop covers an area immediately south of Idaho Springs. You can reach start of the trail in just a few minutes. Not particularly scenic because much of the trail is in the trees. Covered shelter at Point #5 is handy if you have a group that wants to get together. Lots of dispersed camping nearby. Trail is closed to motorized traffic Dec. 2 to June 14. High Point 10,200 ft., Best time to go: Late June - October. Located in Arapaho National Forest. For current conditions call Clear Creek Ranger District (303) 567-3000.

Varying terrain, technical to easy to fun to challenging. Stock 2004 Rubicon did well. Very beautiful with lots of Columbine flowers along the trail. No grand vista at the peak though. Overall, lots of fun!

Pretty fun trail. Went left at the fork and got into it pretty quick. The trail is rocky and rutted in some spots but not terrible. When you get to a split and the road drops to your right, that’s your turn. If you keep going you hit a dead end.

If you go right it’s not as difficult. I’d rate this a lotl higher than moderate. I was still able to get my stock ram 1500 down it.

Not enjoyable to hear sound of shooting while hiking.

Fun trail not too far from denver, a bit more in the moderate/hard range with wet conditions went to late and it got dark about half way through but I was still Angel to get down comfortably

Great 4x4 trail close to Denver, but definately being over run by the shooting crowd. Left some picnic gear to pick up on our return and someone used our water bottle as target practice while we were gone. Rediculous.

I live in the neighborhood of this trail and used to love to hike it. A close to home easy hike. It was beautiful with wooded areas, meadows with wild flowers and a trickling stream. Unfortunately it is an area that is no longer maintained. The last time I was there, there were tent cities errected, by, I was told, rafting company employees. Garbage strewn about, as it is not an area meant for long term stays. Very noisy, from too many campers, 4-wheelers, motorized trail bikes and very often individuals target shooting.
