Hiking

We hiked this trail the morning after the small snowstorm (on Nov 7) so the snow was very fresh and easy to walk through. A few muddy spots but that’s all. No ice. We are flatlanders and it was quite easy but a good way to stretch your legs and have a little bit of a push with some quick / short uphill climbs on the return. Nothing spectacular at the bottom but the views on your way down are beautiful probably because of all the fresh snow. Thankfully a few hikers had already marked the trail for us with their footsteps in the snow; otherwise it would have been hard to follow. Note: enter after the trailhead sign through a trail going straight downhill

Snow was melting on the second half of the trail, therefore quite muddy and slick. Otherwise, nice trail. looking forward to returning when the aspen leaves are changing.

Beautiful trail! Nicely maintained but not too busy. There’s a small sawmill museum at the bottom & various equipment scattered along the trail.

Cool hike through the trees that can be done quickly. It’s downhill to a valley with a small sawmill museum and then you have to climb back out from where you came. The leaves were all off the aspens but it was still beautiful!

Lots of bikes, but less people since the leaves have fallen. The bare aspens are still really pretty!

Trail is great, not to busy in late afternoon but the early cold snap made the leaves fall.

Very pretty trail! Got there around 11am and there were lots of bike riders, they usually gave a warning though and how many people were behind them. Most of the leaves had already fallen, it was very windy today, but there were still some sections with full aspens, very beautiful!

Suuuper busy. I’m sure it’s stunning in the fall before the leaves have fallen but the aspens are mostly bare now. Easy enough but always need to be on the lookout for mountain bikes.

Not terribly busy at 8:30 am, but by 10 am the trail was packed. Recommend an early start. The trees are losing their leaves currently.

The trail was lovely! Aspens changing, pretty views. Would love to try and mountain bike it actually. Looked really fun on a bike. Easy hike!! Definitely crowded though. Might be better on a weekday. Also, you can park at the bottom off of Boreas pass and hike up first then down on the way back.

Beautiful fall hike that lives up to its name. VERY crowded on an autumn Saturday. But worth it for views and phots. Watch out for those mountain bikers! Def wish they were a bit more careful with a trail that crowded.

After seeing more and more yellow every day over our week in the Summit County area, we went looking for a hike that would really feature the turning aspens, and this one fit the bill perfectly. The trail is nicely graded and substantially shaded. On the easy side of moderate (we had a 7-month old in tow and encountered a number of other families as well) Very popular with both hikers and cyclists, but not a deterrent to enjoying the glorious fall color on display.

Beautiful shaded trail through aspen groves. Encountered a fair amount of bicyclists. Fitbit calculated the trail to be 3.9 miles. Will be back to hike the trail during peak leaf season.
